Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Research Assistant
Full-Time 8-week Youth Summer Position

What we need: The successful candidate will meet the following criteria:
Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
Must be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act* for the duration of the employment and,
Must have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
*Foreign Students are not eligible
Applicants should also have the following qualifications/skills:
Have excellent communication skills (written, verbal)
Have excellent customer services skills with both internal and external customers
Have superior organizational skills, with the ability to multi-task, in a fast-paced environment
Proficient in MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access)
Preferred candidates will be enrolled in either a college and/or university level program, majoring in one of the following disciplines:
Social Service Worker/Social Work-Race and Ethnicity
Liberal Arts and Professional Studies
Arts and Contemporary Studies
What you will do: Support Job Skills’ equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives by:
Research and Analyses
Conducting research related to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion /anti-racism initiatives and best practices in regards to newcomers and immigrants.
Providing research and administrative support for the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Working Group (EDI-WG).
Researching and recommending online learning tools such as workshops, webinars, panel discussions, networking sessions, toolkits, professional development resources, and external links related to anti-racism topics to increase awareness and the ability to find solutions and increase awareness across the WC system and in the communities being serve.
Researching training, webinars, events, and sending regular emails to participants, as appropriate.
Assisting in the design, execution and evaluation of data collection/information gathering, including literature reviews, surveys, focus groups, and data analysis.
Preparing a summary report of data analysis and assist the preparation of the EDI Working Group final report.
Assisting in the identification of trends/barriers affecting racialized newcomers in the Canadian labour market through formal research and observation.
Contributing research for a marketing and outreach campaign to be developed to highlight and promote the EDI e-learning initiative components to the community and employers to initiate and engage in discussions on multiculturalism, diversity, racism and religious discrimination at the domestic and international levels.
Working with the JS Newcomer Division team, Marketing, the IT and HR Departments and the Welcome Centre (WC) staff to research a menu of new, online resources and training tools on anti-racism and diversity for clients, employers and WC staff to be able to access
Participating in the planning, preparation and promotion of EDI webinars, workshops and events.
Coordinating and participating in working group meetings and activities, and performing other administrative duties as required.
Updating the WC Manager and/or Director of Newcomer Services on critical issues and weekly activities.
Making recommendations to the Newcomer Services and Employment Programs Manager and/or the EDI regarding research/best practices.
Working with the Marketing Department to support the development and creation of a menu of tools, resources on the topic of anti-racism, equity, diversity, and inclusion outreach-oriented marketing and information tools.
