We are currently seeking the ideal candidate to fill the position of: 

Flemo Farm Community Engagement  Coordinator

Main Tasks: 

The Flemo Farm Community Engagement Coordinator will lead the engagement of local community residents at a ½ acre hydro corridor farm in Flemingdon Park. They will work in collaboration with the Farm Coordinator to train local residents in composting, provide tours of the site, work together with the community farmers, lead the farmer’s market, and connect youth and seniors to the farm. The position also involves supervising and training participants during the growing season, designing and implementing an outreach plan, and coordinating community engagement events in close collaboration with our project partners at the  Flemingdon Health Centre.

Detailed Job Description

  • Coordinate community engagement activities and events at Flemo farm in partnership with local agencies in Flemingdon Park and in collaboration with the steering committee
  • Coordinate community composting activities at the farm site, including working with residents to install three-cell compost bins, training farmers on the installation and maintenance of the system, and community outreach to use the system
  • Support the local distribution of produce grown at the farm within the community - coordinate the new farmers market and support emergency food distribution efforts
  • Coordinate outreach activities (social media, e-newsletter, printed materials)
  • Facilitate events, tours, workshops, and volunteer opportunities
  • Maintain or establish good communication and collaboration with local community groups and organizations
  • Provide mentorship for staff hired through job training programs (ie. Canada Summer Jobs) 
  • Participate in the Flemo Farm Steering Committee alongside stakeholder groups and residents 
  • Develop and deliver educational on-farm programming in line with FoodShare’s Food Justice principles
  • Support the Farm Coordinator with scheduling, training and supervising of community farmers, program volunteers, student interns, or co-op students as needed
  • Support the Farm Coordinator with farm tasks, when needed 
  • Participate in FoodShare staff and team meetings, all staff training, board staff retreat and reporting requirements such as timesheets and handle other duties as assigned 

Required Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience

  • 2 years experience working with children, youth, adults and seniors in Flemingdon Park or surrounding neighbourhoods, in community development or social services setting 
  • 1 year of experience designing and facilitating workshops on food justice concepts, including anti-oppression and equity
  • A demonstrated interest in issues of food literacy and food justice
  • A demonstrated ability to work respectfully with people of different ages, genders, cultural backgrounds, body types, abilities, and individuals who have experienced marginalization
  • Experience teaching others gardening, cooking, and/or composting skills
  • Strong oral speaking, communications and interpersonal skills
  • Strong conflict resolution skills 
  • Ability to facilitate workshops and meetings
  • Computer skills (e.g. word processing, spreadsheets, basic design work, Google suite, Zoom)
  • Drivers License an asset
  • Languages other than English an asset (Urdu, Farsi, Gujarati)

Job Requirements:

Please note that the successful applicant will be required to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Police Check, Food Handler’s Safety certification, and Emergency First Aid and CPR certification. FoodShare will cover the cost of these certifications

Salary: $49,000/ Annually prorated

Benefits: Reimbursement option of eligible expenses of up to $1000 (prorated based on start date)

Duration: 7-month contract - Start date to be confirmed with selected candidate (Expected start: May/June)

Contract Type: Fixed Term Contract: Part-time (22.5 hours per week)
