ALPHA Education is an educational, non-profit, and registered charity in Canada that promotes a critical-historical investigation of the events of World War II in Asia. We achieve this mission through education programs, advocacy initiatives, and events along four strategic directions: engaging educators and students, empowering youth, supporting research, and connecting with the community. Through ALPHA’s education programs, students develop historical thinking, not just content, which contribute to their role in championing equity, humanity and global peace over discrimination and violence. Currently ALPHA Education has embarked on a major and significant project – the establishment of the Asia Pacific Peace Museum (APPM).

 

ALPHA Education is seeking to provide a Canada Summer Job opportunity to one recent college or university graduate who faces barriers to employment and seeks workplace experience in the museum sector. The CSJ opportunity is a museum display designer for youths who are interested in pursuing experience in producing research-based content and exhibit design for museums.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Sourcing exhibit design components to support design production for the Asia Pacific Peace Museum.
  • Reviewing and providing feedback from youth perspectives, impacts of the exhibit design components on young visitors.
  • Graphic design of museum promotional materials and exhibit panels to get prepared for exhibit production.
  • Administrative aspects of APPM’s development work.

 

The responsibilities outlined above and the mentorship provided will ensure the CSJ participant:

 

  • applies creativity and critical thinking on exhibit design for museums.
  • learns to plan, source and understand design production for museums.
  • gains transferable competencies from working with a team of professionals.
  • works with different age groups and apply networking and collaborative discussions effectively.
  • engages in discussions of controversial social issues that bring people together - a key leadership skill.
  • gains experience in undertaking administrative tasks using both digital and non-digital tools and applications.
  • gains workplace problem-assessment and problem-solving skills, specifically feedback as constructive improvement.
  • develops essential soft skills that employment market research has demonstrated are central to employers’ expectations.

 

Contract length: 10 weeks

Part-time hours: 35 per week
