Currently, Bissell Centre is looking for the right individual to fill the position of People & Culture Intern (FT). The People & Culture Intern will be responsible for a wide variety of administrative duties. This role demands a high level of confidentiality and professionalism when interacting with employees, management, and the public.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Human Resources Administrative
Filing of correspondence
Maintain and update the new HRIS system and personnel documentations
Prepare offer letters, confirmation of employment letters, and orientation materials
Assist with Human Resources communication, including monthly newsletter, assist with recruiting and staffing activities including create, post, and maintain job advertisements, resume screening, pre-screen interviewing and scheduling of interviews
Coordinate employee pre-employment requirements, such as reference checks
Compile data, statistics, metrics and other information as required
Manage sensitive and confidential matters like employee relations, personnel matters and organizational changes
Organize and protect the security of information, data and files
Explain company personnel policies and procedures to employees
Answering basic correspondence with employees and managers
Education and Experience
College diploma or additional post-secondary education in HR related courses an asset
Office administration certificate: equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong attention to detail
Accurate and efficient (50 wpm) keyboarding, data entry skills and working knowledge in operating office equipment e.g printer, copier and fax machine
Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook (email) and Outlook Calendar), Internet navigation, databases and general computer use
Flexible, able to prioritize problem-solving, multi-task, and deal with difficult situations in a calm and confident manner
Strong interpersonal, communication and customer service skills, with the ability to communicate in a professional manner with tact and diplomacy
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality
Display professionalism at all times and adopt appropriate non-partisan stance with employees and management
Familiarity with issues of poverty, community-based organizations and the services they provide
The People & Culture Intern should demonstrate competence in all the following:

Make Decisions: Assess situations to determine the importance, urgency, and risks, and make clear decisions that are timely and in the best interests of the organization.
Organizational Skills: Set priorities, develop a work schedule, monitor progress towards goals, and track details/data/information/activities.
Plan: Determine strategies to move the organization forward, set goals, create, and implement action plans, and evaluate the process and results.
Solve Problems: Assess problem situations to identify causes, gather and process relevant information, generate possible solutions, and make recommendations and/or resolve the problem.
