Hours of Work: Avg. 36 hours per week; (Monday through Friday; 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with every second Monday free from work

Compensation:$32.00 per hour.

About You:
Are you an upbeat, spirited teacher who has an untapped passion to work with moms and kids affected by violence? We are offering a temporary (six months) position for a teacher who will help ensure children and youth in transition houses remain current, and positive about school during this extraordinary time. All you need is a healthy sense of self and experience with or a willingness to learn and practice trauma-Informed teaching strategies.


About the Job:
You will work with Atira Women’s Resource Society’s Transition and Second-Stage Transition Housing programs and be responsible for developing an overall education strategy for children and youth Grades seven through 12 who have been in transition as well as missed more than two months of school. You will also work one-on-one or in small groups with children and youth developing relationships that ensure students feel listened to, respected and valued. You will support moms to support their children’s education.

You Have/Will be Required to Have:

• Candidates must possess a strong background in English and must be comfortable teaching students Grade 7 to Grade 12.
• A teaching certificate is preferred, but a university degree coupled with significant experience as a tutor in all areas of education will be considered
• All positions are subject to a criminal records review
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position and carry out heavy cleaning duties
