Hospice Care Ottawa is a community-based charitable organization providing high quality end-of-life care for terminally ill people living in Ottawa. Services aim to provide residents and their loved ones with an experience in palliative and end-of-life care which is supportive and peaceful, surrounded by caring that reflects as closely as possible to a comfortable home environment. The HCO programs include day hospice, home support, family services and residential hospice services. Hospice Care Ottawa relies on and values the contribution of over 700 volunteers who contribute to every aspect of our programs.

Seeking a compassionate RPN  with a passion and commitment for providing the highest quality palliative and end-of-life care to fill a full-time 18-Month Term Assignment

Assignment Details:

Term:             18 Months

Start Date:     July 2021

End Date:      January 6, 2023

Location:       Kanata, Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice, 110 McCurdy Drive

Position Summary:   staff nursing RPN within our community-based residential hospice. This position works out of our Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice in Kanata, ON. The RPN is responsible to plan, coordinate, deliver and support a team to provide day to day end-of-life palliative care for the residents in the Hospice and their families and/or significant others.

Position Details:  0.80 FTE  16 shifts over a 4 week rotation; 32 hours/week, all shifts are 8 hours and fully paid. Shifts are Days (0700-1500) and Evenings (1500-2300)

Week 1:        Days:  Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Friday 

Week 2:        Days:  Monday, Tuesday   

                      Evenings:  Friday, Saturday

Week 3:        Evenings:  Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday

Week 4:        Days: Monday, Friday, Saturday

                      Evening: Tuesday        

Qualifications & Background:

  1. Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  2. LEAP Certification or willingness to obtain within 6 months
  3. A strong sense of dedication to the mission, vision and values of Hospice Care Ottawa
  4. Knowledge and experience in Hospice Palliative Care
  5. Excellent communication skills
  6. Leadership skills
  7. Understands Ethics as they relate to Hospice Palliative Care
  8. Ability to work as part of a team
  9. Ability to give and take direction
  10. Bilingualism is an asset - English/French, other
