The Elizabeth Fry Society of Greater Vancouver (EFry) is a charitable organization that supports women, girls and children at risk, involved in or affected by the justice system. Our programs work to break the cycle of poverty, addiction, mental illness, homelessness and crime.

 

Located in Abbotsford, the Firth program provides a continuum of live-in services for women with substance use concerns. Up to 6 women are provided non-medical detox services for up to one week, with support from Fraser Health medical staff. Firth also provides up to an additional 17 women with 30 days of support-recovery in which to stabilize while abstaining from substance use; and 3-5 months of structured support recovery. Support workers are responsible for case planning, group facilitation, linkage with community resources, transition planning, and the day to day running of the facility.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Interview clients to gather case history information
  • Develop and implement therapeutic plans and programs necessary to meet client goals and objectives 
  • Provide individual counselling interventions to address identified plans for substance use and concurrent disorders.  May use specific therapeutic techniques depending on client type e.g. psychoeducation, CBT, DBT, motivational enhancement
  • Work with team to ensure service plan goals are met
  • Liaise with substance use and mental health professionals in the community
  • Ensure all required documentation is accurate and complete
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of information
  • Maintain knowledge of community resources and provide appropriate referrals to clients to meet their needs
  • Participate in staff training sessions and public education forums, seminars and conferences relevant to specific program areas
  • Participate in individual and group clinical supervision on a monthly basis or as needed. Engage in ongoing professional development.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Registration with a regulatory or professional organization (e.g. BCACC, BCCSW)
  • Master’s Degree in a related discipline such as clinical counselling, clinical psychology or social work
  • At least two year’s relevant work experience is required
  • Direct program delivery experience in the community social services sector with a demonstrated working knowledge of community-based programs and related provincial and community
    support services systems is preferred
  • Proficient in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), motivational enhancement, and evidence-based interventions
  • Knowledge of theories and best practice related to substance use and concurrent disorders
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND EXPECTATIONS

  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Proficient in Microsoft programs
  • Standard First-aid with CPR-C
  • Evidence of a Tuberculosis Test and compliance with the TB Control Program
  • Doctor’s Note of fitness required
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Review (Vulnerable Sector Search)
  • Enhanced Security Screening required
