Currently, Bissell Centre is looking for the right individual to fill the position of Store Supervisor, Hermitage (FT). This position is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of Bissell Centre’s newest Thrift Shop in Hermitage Square.  The position, in collaboration with the Manager, Special Projects, is responsible for ensuring a positive and rewarding donor and customer experience, while working collaboratively with social enterprise managers to build the social enterprise brand and facilitate the achievement of Bissell Centre’s mandates.

This location will be opening mid-June, the successful applicant will be assisting in the initial stocking, launch and marketing of this new location.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervisory and Store Maintenance

  • Model the values of Bissell Centre and communicate these principles in a clear and compelling fashion both internally and externally.  Translate agency values and culture into Thrift Shoppe activities
  • Together with Fund Development, Manager of Thrift Shop and Marketing Coordinator, collaborate with external donors, partners and neighboring businesses, committees and associations and assisting with local events ensuring a successful execution
  • Build a loyal personal client base by constantly acquiring new customers, developing existing clients, and retaining loyal clients
  • Resolve problems that arise, such as customer complaints and supply shortages.
  • Ensure store is visually appealing through product presentation, replenishment, store housekeeping and visual displays
  • Price items and provide confirmation on pricing to customers
  • Responsible for unlocking and prepping store for opening and securing store and completing closing protocols at the end of the day
  • Complete end of day cash out and ensure accuracy of transactions throughout the day

Sorting & Donation Oversight

  • Collaborate with Manager, Thrift Shop on ensuring effective materials management of donations and sufficient stock.
  • Greet all donors and receive goods in a timely and professional manner
  • Overseeing the sorting donations into appropriate categories and ensure that items are clean and not damaged, discard unsaleable items for salvage
  • Maintain the work area for efficient and effective sorting

General and Administrative

  • Empathetic towards, and ability to communicate and support individuals facing mental health, addictions, chronic illness, homelessness, poverty and related challenges
  • This position requires varied mental and emotional effort, must be able to respond quickly to individuals in crisis and deescalate intense situations.  This includes working directly to prevent issues from arising and as needed, providing conflict resolution.
  • Participate in probationary and annual performance reviews
  • Attend scheduled staff and supervision meetings
  • Report any incidents/accidents, ensuring that confidential information is reported to the Manager
  • Adhere to all Bissell Centre policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties as required

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Diploma or Degree in Retail and Business Management as considered an asset
  • Extensive relevant retail work experience including several years supervision experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, results oriented, attention to detail, strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to work alone
  • Ability to spend frequent periods standing with a constant opportunity to move about. It is a frequent requirement to stoop, pull, push or lift material, fixtures or equipment and climb a ladder. Supervisors must regularly lift and/or move up to 23 kg (50 lbs.) and occasionally lift and/or move up to 36 kg (80 lbs.) using appropriate equipment.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

  • Conflict Into Calm Training
  • Internal Sorting, Materials Management and Customer Relations Training at our 118 Avenue Store Location

The above-noted training must be completed during the first six months of employment.
