Position: Financial Literacy Facilitator 

The Candora Society of Edmonton is currently seeking a motivated, collaborative person for a one year full-time Financial Literacy Facilitator (FLF) position.  The Financial Literacy Facilitator will work alongside the Adult Learning Team, our agency partners, and members of Edmonton’s newcomer community to develop and deliver Candora’s Newcomer Financial Literacy program. The primary role of the FLF is to facilitate Financial Literacy courses for Newcomers consisting of 8-10 sessions on a weekly basis across Edmonton. The FLF will work with the supervision and support of the Manager of Community Initiatives and Partnerships and the Coordinator of Adult Learning to recruit, train, and support Newcomer Community Connectors to assist with the courses. 

This is a one year full-time position (35 hours/week) running from June 2021 to June 2022 with the potential for extension dependent on funding.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Plan and deliver Financial Literacy courses to groups of newcomers
  • Coordinate supplies, space, and supports for each course
  • Support the recruitment of Community Connectors for each course
  • Train, mentor, and supervise the team of Community Connectors
  • Attend training on the delivery of community Financial Literacy programming
  • Support and host a series of focus groups about financial realities of Newcomers
  • Work with the Community Connectors, partner agencies, and Candora staff to promote the program and recruit participants
  • Communicate with and support the participants outside of course time as needed
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with agencies, organizations and other Candora program participants and staff
  • Ensure the accurate completion of records and reports
  • Assist in program evaluation
  • Participate in community development initiatives and events
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications, Skills & Competencies 

  • Clear Child and Youth Intervention Check and Criminal Record Check
  • Access to a vehicle and a valid Class 5 Driver’s License; Driver’s Abstract may be requested
  • Degree or diploma in related human services field, or equivalent combination of education and experience in community work, education, or community development.
  • Training and/or experience in Financial Literacy is an asset
  • Excellent facilitation and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with people of different cultural backgrounds, high needs, and marginalized populations
  • Experience in mentoring and supporting Newcomers to Canada
  • Commitment to the vision, mission, values, and beliefs of the Candora Society
  • Clear understanding of professional boundaries and ethics
  • Orientation towards relationship based, reflective practice skills and a strong commitment to community development
  • Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal, and team skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Experience with MS Office computer applications and databases 

Working Conditions 

  • The FLF works a regular full-time schedule of 35 hours per week that includes some evenings depending on the timing of courses.
  • The FLF travels to deliver programming at the Candora location, at our Agency Partners locations, and in community settings.
