North Shore ConneXions Society is an accredited, mid-sized, non-profit organization that provides a variety of Community Living services to people with intellectual disabilities. ConneXions is a community leader in providing individualized care and innovative initiatives for the people we serve. We support individuals living with intellectual disabilities to thrive in the unique life they choose.

This exciting and rare role requires a focussed, organized, engaging and professional leader who trains and supports the Recreation, Community and Social Enterprise teams in their day-to-day operations. This leader will inspire and help build the capacity of a dedicated and talented team of Community Living Counselors and Vocational Trainers.

We are looking for a natural connector who fosters strong relations between the North Shore ConneXions Society and its self-advocates, families, the local business community and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Innovate virtual and in-person programming with a view to redeveloping current programming.
  • Train and support the Social Enterprise team to develop and implement business ideas.
  • Develop and implement innovative ways to market products and services.
  • Manage and develop micro-businesses including financial responsibility.
  • Write content and connect with the community through social media.
  • Make person-centred programming paramount and inclusive of empowerment and independence within a group.
  • Liaise with Community Living BC (CLBC) to ensure appropriate client fit to programs and encourage referrals.
  • Connect with the community to develop contracts, funding sources and potential customers.
  • Keep abreast of technology and innovation that will benefit your role & the Society.
  • Attend networking events in the local community, representing the Society & sharing knowledge.
  • Maintain current membership with the goal of expanding.
  • Complete grant applications applicable to programs.
  • Ensure a high standard of quality assurance through outcome design and oversight.
  • Manage unionized and nonunionized teams.
  • Market and promote current and future programming through promotional material.
  • Continually review and adapt safety plans.
  • Budget and ensure financial prudence.
  • Manage building maintenance.
  • Attend to administrative responsibilities as required.
  • Ensure health, safety, support and care of all individuals.
  • Attend and contribute at leadership meetings with other managers and directors.
  • Sit on various organizational and local committees where appropriate.
  • Understand and contribute to the organization’s philosophy.
  • Attend organizational events.

Required skills, knowledge and personal attributes:

  • Minimum four years experience in direct program delivery of recreation and community services within the community living sector.
  • Minimum two years’ management experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of community service partners, applicable legislation and policies, and best practices within the community living field.
  • A bachelor’s degree in a field related to the job preferred.
  • Experience managing teams in a unionized and non-unionized environment.
  • Passionate about creating opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities.
  • Engaging group facilitation skills.
  • Demonstrated superior ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Solid understanding of various marketing techniques including demonstrated use of social media marketing.
  • Experience operating a small business – your own or others is an asset.
  • Familiarity with financial record keeping.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills; tact and good judgement.
  • Ability to determine priorities, adhere to deadlines and multi-task.
  • Creative, adaptable, flexible and detail-oriented.
  • High level of comfort with meeting new people and networking with other organizations and stakeholders.
  • Strong desire to learn, grow and try new things.

Other Requirements:

  • Please provide two or three professional references who we can call (at least one from a manager or supervisor).
  • Class 5 BCDL (Class 7 is not accepted) and driver’s abstract.
  • Use of a reliable vehicle.
  • Business Insurance – ICBC.
  • Emergency or Standard First Aid with CPR C and AED training.
  • Criminal record check and tuberculosis screening clearance.
  • Medical Approval letter (provided by ConneXions).

Hours of Work:

Hours of work as required.

This position is Full Time and may require the Program Manager to work days, evenings, weekends, and overnights as needed.

Rostered as emergency on-call contact for the organization (approximately six weeks a year – rotated weekly between managers).
