Part-time Intermediate Teacher

James Cameron School is operated by the Fraser Valley Society for Children with Learning Disabilities, a registered charitable organization established in 1980. It is a small school of about 50 students and 20 staff members, specializing in educating elementary school-aged children with learning disorders, primarily dyslexia.  James Cameron School has provided an approach with a focus on success-oriented learning and re-integration of all students into the regular school system when they have acquired the necessary skills. Our school celebrates diversity and addresses the intellectual, social, emotional and physical development of children who have Dyslexia and language-based learning disabilities. While we are located on the borders of Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows, we draw students from the entire Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley.

PositionPart-time Grade 7 Teacher (2 days per week)

 

The CandidateCandidates must demonstrate competence in the following areas and each of these general criteria must be evident in your application or letters of reference:

 

  • Certification with the Ministry of Education Teacher Regulation Branch
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Current knowledge of the BC Ministry of Education’s revised curriculum
  • Ability to use a multi- sensory method when teaching all subjects
  • Experience incorporating technology into teaching and learning
  • Commitment to meet the social emotional needs of our students, through teaching and one to one support
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with students, staff and parents
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment which includes Teachers, EAs, Administration, and Professionals (counselor, OT, SLP, etc.)
  • Commitment to on-going professional development (life-long learning)
  • Familiarity with student assessments and IEPs, and the ability to adapt material/teaching to meet the varied needs and learning styles of our students as recommended in each student’s IEP.
  • Familiarity with Learning Disabilities and Best Practices for students with Special needs is desirable
