Position:         Senior Activity Leaders

 

Cedar Cottage Neighbourhood House is looking for 2 Activity Leaders.  The purpose of this program is to provide a safe, open and supportive outdoor space for community; specifically, children, youth, and seniors during the summer months. 

 

Most activities will take place outside in our newly built Community Park and Playground with a Community Garden and a space for teaching Indigenous plants and medicines.  All activities will follow all Work safe COVID-19 protocols. 

 

The youth will lead both cultural, recreational and social inclusion programs for community.  Specific programs will include:

 

  • Work with the Garden Coordinator on a pre-teen program (Urban Roots) - 2 days
  • Work with the Anti-racism and Community Engagement Worker on activities driven by the social justice club
  • Develop a school age outdoor program for local children - 2 days
  • Work as part of the Summer 2021 Team on all special events and community building activities

 

This is an exciting opportunity for someone wanting to seek a career in community based Social Justice work.   

 

Qualifications:           

  • Undergraduate degree in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Education or any related social sciences
  • 2-3 years experience  implementing programs for school age children and youth
  • A creative individual with innovation approaches to reach a wide diversity of people living in the KCC Community
  • Ability to lead values-based programs that meet the mission and strategic directions of Cedar Cottage Neighbourhood House
  • A Highly professional individual that can work inside a very informal setting
  • Knowledge of social justice is critical to this position
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends

Hourly Wage:                         $19.87 to $21.00 per hour depending on experience and qualifications
(11 weeks; June 21st or June 28th start date)

Terms of Employment:          30 hours per week, some flexibility to work weekends
