The Tutor will work one to one with children/youth between the ages of 7-16. The majority of the students will have a learning disabilities, for example, dyslexia. The tutors will be trained in the Barton reading and spelling program which the organization has been delivering for over 6 years. This program is based on the Orton-Gillingham Method for learning to read.
The tutors will work from our Surrey Learning Centre which will include one to one in person and online. Each child will be tutored for one hour. There will be some communication required with the parents to bring them up to date on their child's progress. The training in Barton will be provided by a remedial reading specialist with many years as a teacher and Barton tutor. This individual will also provide support and mentoring.
This is a Canada Summer Job funded program with 25 hrs./week. Mon-Thurs for a maximum of 10 weeks. Please note that the candidates must meet the Canada Summer Job program specifications.
There is an opportunity to continue part time employment at the end of the 10 weeks.
