The Prince George Native Friendship Centre (PGNFC) has grown and continues to be one of the largest and busiest community service delivery agencies in Prince George. Our clientele of Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples have supported the Centre's program offerings for the last 50 years. The PGNFC provides culturally appropriate programming to meet the community's unique and diverse needs. We offer a wide variety of services, which includes education, employment, health, early childhood, and social programs.

Director of Youth & Community Services


You are a proven leader with a passion for wholistic and culturally based services and extensive knowledge of Youth specific programs and services in urban Indigenous communities. You thrive in a multi-faceted role and has excellent organizational skills.


You will be responsible for the direction of culturally responsive direct client services ranging from outreach, advocacy, supportive housing, and full direct care capacity.  This leadership role will include proactive planning, quality supervision and staff development, as well as program and community development. In this role, you will also be responsible for contract supervision and leading program development to identify ongoing funding opportunities and develop new initiatives. PGNFC Youth & Community Services generally fall from the Social Determinants of Health Theory and are wholistic and culturally based in nature. The preferred qualifications for this role include:


  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Education, Political Science, History, Indigenous Studies, Public Administration, Health Sciences, or other comparable area of study.
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a leadership role in a comparable field.
  • Combination of relevant experience, education, and training will be considered.
  • Extensive knowledge of Youth specific programs and services provision in urban Indigenous.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience, at a management level.
  • Proven experience in proposal writing, formal reports, reports on activities/critical incidents, strategic work plans, goals and objectives.
  • A thorough appreciation, awareness, working experience and sensitivity of Indigenous history and culture, as well as a thorough understanding of the complexities of working with diverse populations.
  • A sound understanding of, non-profit organizations, especially the Friendship Centre movement.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with local, regional, provincial and national partners of the PGNFC.
  • Professional communication proficiencies including presentation skills, writing ability, computer proficiency and authentic interpersonal skills. 
  • Proven experience in proposal writing and writing reports on activities, strategic work plans, goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrated teamwork, leadership skills and visionary ability to inspire and empower others.
  • Demonstrated ability to model professional, ethical and collaborative behaviours consistent with the position.
  • In-depth knowledge of the social service sector, community-based programs and services, funding sources, community, and board relations.
  • Successfully complete Criminal Record Clearances, including Enhanced Security Clearance.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and provide driver’s abstract.
  • Be willing to work flexible hours including on call, evenings & weekends.
