Our College programs were reviewed and approved by the registrar of the Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) of the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills & Training.

Collège Éducacentre is looking for a Clinical Instructor to supervise a student of the Health Care Assistant Program. Under the direction and supervision of a health professional, graduates provide person-centered care aimed at promoting and maintaining the physical, emotional, cognitive, and social well-being of clients/residents.

  • Location: Vancouver
  • Period: Between June and August 2021

HCA programs in BC require students to do a minimum of 270 hours of practice education experience.

During the clinical placement (first 150 hours), students must be supervised by a clinical instructor. The clinical instructor is an independent entrepreneur and is offering his/her services as Clinical Instructor in a Multi-Level/Complex Care Home.

He has the skill and ability to provide direct supervision and evaluation. The Contractor meets the minimum required qualifications.

He has the necessary experience and is comfortable with following all general responsibilities. He provides direct supervision and evaluation of involved student(s) for a total of 150 hours of clinical placement in a multi-level or complex care including specialized dementia care.

Responsibilities :

  • The Contractorprovides 150 hours of direct supervision and evaluation time of 2 students, as part of Collège Éducacentre’s Health Care Assistant Program. The work must be provided in a multi-level or complex care facility, including specialized dementia care, located in Kelowna.
  • The Contractor provides a site orientation to student(s) upon starting the clinical placement.
  • The Contractor is expected to guide the practice of the HCA student(s) to ensure appropriate care is provided to the assigned clients/residents.
  • The Contractor provides daily pre-shift briefings and end of shift de-briefings.
  • The Contractor fills all required documentation to track and document student(s) progress.
  • The Contractor keeps track of the student(s) hours during the clinical placement.
  • The Contractor will promptly report back to the Collège Éducacentre instructor, if unexpected difficulties arise with any student during the course of the clinical placement.
  • The Contractor is also expected to provide feedback to the student’s Collège Éducacentre instructor on the student’s performance. They share knowledge and resources with the student.

Qualifications and Education :

  • Current full registration registration with the BCCNM;
  • Demonstrated ability to teach adult learners (i.e. completion of Provincial Instructor Diploma or equivalent education or previous teaching experience with satisfactory references or positive performance evaluations and student course evaluations); It can be an experience with supervising learners/students with their first real residents interactions but most importantly their first times mobilising human bodies ( in bed, using lifts, etc.) as opposed to lab dummies. This applies to their first few weeks, depending on the individual abilities.
  • Two years or more of full-time Canadian nursing experience (1 year = 1400 hours) with relevant knowledge of the Canadian health care system, the roles and responsibilities of healthcare team members and current policies and procedures within residential and community care settings. Nursing work experience to include:
  • Experience in working with older adults with complex health needs;
  • Experience or orientation in home support and multi-level/complex care.

Experience:

  • nursing: 2 years (Required)
  • teaching experience (prefered, otherwise a short online training can be done)

Licence/Certification:

  • BCCNM registration (Required)

  • English (fluency/proficiency), French (an asset)
