About Next Gen Men

Next Gen Men is working towards a future where boys & men feel less pain, and cause less harm by promoting positive masculinities, mental wellbeing, healthy relationships, and gender equity in schools, communities, and workplaces across Canada. This role supports each of our programmatic focuses, as well as the overall organization's image and voice.

Our values include:

Curiosity — To learn and unlearn
Empathy — To build bridges
Courage — To take action
Equity — To remove barriers

At Next Gen Men, we:

  • Are a small and dynamic team that doesn’t subscribe to 9-5 office work outside of program hours and use tools like Google Apps and Basecamp to get things done with geographically dispersed colleagues

  • Will be 7 years old this fall and are still learning every day—you get to be a part of that! We need someone willing to look at it with a critical eye and give us constructive feedback on how we can improve as an organization

  • Are very much a ‘start-up’ grassroots organization, which means we all wear a lot of hats and have to roll up our sleeves to get the necessary work done—above and beyond the job description sometimes

The Role

To craft visuals and language that engages, educates, and/or empowers NGM's audience across platforms (web, social media, newsletter, etc.) around gender and equality while compelling them to get involved with the organization

  • Design posts to sustain readers’ curiosity and create buzz around new products and programs

  • Measure web traffic and monitor SEO

  • Stay up-to-date with changes in all social platforms ensuring maximum effectiveness

  • Facilitate online conversations with stakeholders and respond to queries

  • Report on online reviews and feedback from supporters & clients

  • Develop an optimal posting schedule, considering web traffic and customer engagement metrics

  • Suggest new ways to attract prospective supporters & clients, like promotions and competitions

  • Support the creation and implementation of communications strategies

  • Provide administrative support to programs and internal teams

  • Draft and edit communications copy (e.g. press releases, blog posts, newsletters, social media posts) that is reflective of agency goals, mission, and values

  • Assist in maintaining web content and executing social media strategies

  • Update databases and media lists

  • Track projects and media exposure

  • Prepare presentations and reports

Ideal Candidate

You are:

  • Passionate about and proficient in the world of marketing and communications:

    • Expertise in multiple social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.)

    • Understanding of media relations and digital media strategies

    • Capacity, creativity, and perhaps expertise as a content creator, in written copy, social channels, or multimedia

    • Familiarity with online marketing strategies and marketing channels

    • Ability to gasp future trends in digital technologies and act proactively

    • You have strong communication skills, and not just the nuts and bolts of oral and written English

  • Want to work with and learn from a close-knit, values-based team, while bringing expertise of your own

  • A generalist, who makes themself invaluable as a teammate, organizer, helper, creative mind, strategic sounding board, and all-round “person who gets stuff done”

  • Generally proficient with a range of different technologies and platforms, especially G-Suite. Able and eager to learn some new platforms and technologies too

  • Are a self-starter comfortable checking in with the team online frequently as well as work independently to meet deadlines

  • Working toward or completed a University/College education in marketing, business, advertising, digital marketing, communications, youth education, health promotion, gender studies, social work, international development, teaching, or other related fields. Equivalent experience will also be considered.

  • Have knowledge in Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator), and website editing (Squarespace, HTML)

  • Be interested in understanding how gender and masculinity affect the social and emotional development of adolescents and youth, the health and wellbeing of men in communities, and gender equity in workplaces

  • Become an ambassador and represent the organization and program as required within the community including agency partners, donors, volunteers, clients, and other stakeholders.

  • … surprise us with skills, experience and capabilities that we didn’t know we needed!
