35 hours per week, $20/hr
The Government of Canada has helped fund this job for up to 8 weeks to a maximum of 280 hours through the Canada Summer Jobs program.
You must be aged between 15-30, be legally entitled to work in Canada, and be based in Edmonton OR Vancouver. Work is fully remote. International students are not eligible.

At Next Gen Men, we:
Are a small and dynamic team that doesn’t subscribe to 9-5 office work outside of program hours and use tools like Google Apps and Basecamp to get things done with geographically dispersed colleagues
Will be 7 years old this fall and are still learning every day—you get to be a part of that! We need someone willing to look at it with a critical eye and give us constructive feedback on how we can improve as an organization
Are very much a ‘start-up’ grassroots organization, which means we all wear a lot of hats and have to roll up our sleeves to get the necessary work done—above and beyond the job description sometimes
To engage with and support the wellbeing of boys and nonbinary youth in Grades 7-9 by coordinating and facilitating virtual activities, workshops, events and hangouts on Next Gen Men’s youth-serving Discord server, NGM Boys Club
While facilitating NGM’s youth programming, you will:
Facilitate digital activities, hangouts and discussions with youth ranging from Grade 7-10
Take care of an online community of youth, understanding their interests, needs and challenges in providing opportunities for connection and support through Discord
Facilitate engaging sessions based on Next Gen Men’s youth program resources that encourage learning, sharing, and critical reflection on topics related to positive masculinity such as gender roles and stereotypes, mental health and stress, or respectful relationships
Collect qualitative feedback (e.g. screen shots, anecdotes, etc.) and write weekly reflections on learnings, engagement and impact
Provide administrative support to programs and internal teams
Draft and edit communications to youth and parents (e.g. program updates, website content, etc.) that are reflective of Next Gen Men’s goals, mission, and values
Update administrative databases and media lists
Report back about your work with the rest of the Next Gen Men team
When not facilitating the youth program, you might be:
Communicating with parents/guardians of participants about our program and their child’s participation
Assisting Next Gen Men colleagues with other projects and initiatives
Researching potential partners among community organizations and schools
Participating in ongoing learning and professional development
Have a university/college education or equivalent experience in youth education, health promotion, gender studies, social work, international development, teaching, or other related fields
Are interested in understanding how gender and masculinity affect the health and development of adolescents and youth
Have a passion/interest in program/activity facilitation with youth and creative in coming up with new ideas and resilient in trying them out
Have experience and/or familiarity with Discord, including best practices in channel maintenance, role assignment, and virtual engagement
Have a foundational understanding of equity, diversity and inclusion
Are a self-starter comfortable checking in with the team online frequently
Have strong virtual written and verbal communication skills so that you can connect with adolescents and youth on the Discord server and share your learnings with the team
Are generally proficient with a range of different technologies and platforms, especially G-Suite, and are able and eager to learn some new platforms and technologies too
Have experience facilitating group education sessions with adolescents and youth, including boys and young men
Be familiar and comfortable with diversity in terms of ethnocultural, immigrant/newcomer, and socioeconomic backgrounds
Have a desire to learn about the field of masculinities and gender—we have lots of resources!
Become an ambassador and represent the organization and program as required within the community including agency partners, donors, volunteers, schools, clients and family members
Understand and explore your own identity and culture in relation to others, and be interested in identifying and challenging systemic barriers to equality and inclusiveness
