Sensity seeks a Cafe Coordinator for an immediate opening for a full time, 18 month contract role (maternity leave). Reporting to the Manager of Specialized Services, this position will help build on the vision for an accessible on site cafe and create opportunities for possible employment for self-advocates.

You will be based in Paris, Ontario, and will be responsible for developing the systems and processes to guide the daily operations of the Recreation Centre Cafe, which includes work flow and procedures, the development of a menu which highlights food items that provides sensations to the senses and coordinating and supervising a team of participants including those who are deafblind to enable them to gain basic hospitality work experience in a cafe setting which may entail catering and light meals.

 

Essential Position Functions:

  1. Comply with Health & Safety regulations, safe food handling, fire evacuation procedures and that the caf area is left clean, tidy and secure.
  2. Ensure cafe is appropriately staffed and set up work stations.
  3. Maintain appliances.
  4. Development of menu with awareness of special dietary requirements including diets for allergies and food restrictions (mindful of those eating by g-tube or having sensory loss).
  5. Prepare and cook food on a regular basis with a team of participants.
  6. Control and maintain regular stock inventory, including inspecting the quality of the food before serving, packaging or storing.
  7. Continue developing the framework for the work experience programming.
  8. Provide basic training, supervision and instruction to participants on the use of small cafe equipment, preparation and cooking.
  9. Performs other duties, as required.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a culinary college diploma or comparable program;
  • Certificate in Safe Food Handling (or ability to take training)
  • Minimum of two (2) years working in food preparation, program planning/evaluation and kitchen management.
  • Experience with teaching and supervising adults or self-advocates with disabilities would be considered an asset;
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Solid time management, attention to detail and organizational skills. Adaptable and flexible with the ability to respond to changing work priorities, pressures and demands; and be creative with meal preparation.
  • Valid Ontario driver's license with ability to obtain a driver's abstract.
