Position Overview:

The Temporary Pandemic Program Assistant – Food Sorting and Distribution works to ensure all COVID-19

related safety protocols are adhered to while sorting food donations, preparing food hampers and

distributing directly to clients who are accessing basic needs supports at the Exchange. This role is integral in

ensuring the health and safety of clients as well as staff by reducing the risk of COVID-19 transmission during

this essential service delivery.


Position Deliverables/Accountabilities: Reporting to the Manager, Community Animation the incumbent will:

  • Carry out safe and efficient practices when greeting and accepting food donations from donors;
  • Sort, weigh and clear donated goods from the receiving area in a safe and efficient manner, strictly complying with prescribed protocols;
  • Sort and pack food items into hampers for distribution based on client needs;
  • Schedules client pick up of food support hampers;
  • Distributes hampers directly to clients upon arrival, using COVID-19 safety measures;
  • Maintains sanitation schedule of all receiving, sorting and distribution areas to comply with all Health and Safety regulations.


  Qualification Criteria:

  • Minimum High School or equivalent;
  • 0 to 1 year related experience;
  • Experience working with people;
  • Customer service experience;
  • Knowledge of safe work practices;
  • Familiarity with the non-profit sector an asset;
  • Able to safely lift and maneuver objects weighing up to 30 Kg;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Ability to work in a team environment;
  • Clean Criminal Records Check.
