KidSport Edmonton is a local non-profit-organization that has been in the community for over 25 years. Running a fee assistance program called ‘So ALL Kids Can Play!’, subsidizing sport registration fees for kids who live at/below the poverty line.

 

Overview

You will serve as an integral member of The KidSport Edmonton (KSE) Team. The Communications & Event Coordinator will be responsible for developing and implementing a communications strategy, as well supporting in-house and third-party events.

  • Pay: $17/hr
  • Location: Home & Office (Percy Page Centre)

Accountability, Reporting & Evaluation

  • 3-month & annual evaluation hosted by the Executive Director
  • Weekly reporting to the Director of Operations

 

Responsibilities

Communications

  • Design and implement a streamlined communications strategy for KSE including 4 social media platforms, 3 websites (KSE website and 2 event websites), quarterly e-newsletters, and stewardship reports
  • Design graphics for outreach materials, posters, and online communications, including creating viral campaigns, videos and infographics as needed
  • Implement media and marketing strategies for KSE events, programs, and campaigns
  • Leverage social analytics to build reports and recommendations
  • Implement digital strategy for the following, and measure its reach and impact:
    • Support website content maintenance (Word Press-based)
    • Design and implement event websites (Wix)
    • Write, edit and distribute email communication for target audiences with support from staff
    • Manage social media presence

 

Event Planning

  • Act as Communications Representative on both in-house Event Organizing Committees
  • Manage event logistics, coordinate and support community based third-party events
  • Establish and maintain relationships with partners, donors and event sponsors as needed
  • Coordinate and support event volunteers

 

Other duties include:

  • Work directly with Director of Operations to identify and execute project needs and specifications
  • Administrative tasks related to communications and/or event planning
  • Support fundraising and fund development efforts as needed
  • Represent KSE at community events and engage the public about the KidSport Programs
  • Stay up to date with new digital technologies, social media best practices and relevant applicable legislation

 

 Qualifications

  • 1 to 2 years of experience in communications and event planning, preferably in the non-profit sector
  • Working towards post-secondary degree, diploma or certificate in Marketing or related field
  • Non-profit work and/or volunteer experience would be asset
  • Experience with fundraising, donor relations and/or fund development would be ideal
  • Experience overseeing social media and/or digital marketing campaigns
  • Ability to create “eye-catching” visual content
  • Demonstrates strong writing and editing skills
  • Ability to craft social media strategy in support of organizational objectives
  • Ability to rapidly learn and adopt to new technology and software
  • Experience interpreting digital analytics and presenting report/insights
  • Desire for continual learning, improvement and development
  • Strong creative writing skills
  • Excellent organizational skills including superior attention to detail
  • Solid time management skills
  • Proactive and efficient in a fast-paced environment
  • Capable of fulfilling responsibilities with the highest standards in customer service and in support of the KSE mission
  • Ability to adapt quickly to new strategies in a changing environment and multi-task effectively while anticipating future needs
