In Canada, healthcare is universal. Access is not.

Hope Air is Canada’s only national charity providing free travel and accommodations for Canadians in financial need who must access medical care far from home. With 3.2 million Canadians living below the poverty line – including 566,000 children, 191,000 single mothers and 216,000 seniors - access to healthcare is not assured and cost is a huge barrier if you must travel to reach specialists far from home. The promise of Hope Air is that when it comes to healthcare, no one will be left behind no matter where they live or their financial challenges.

Since its founding in 1986, more than 155,000 travel arrangements have been made. Without Hope Air, 27% of patients would cancel or postpone their appointments, and 35% of patients would travel by bus or car 4 – 12+ hours each way to reach medical appointments. Hope Air’s support has a ripple effect and not only benefits patients but also their families, friends, co-workers and healthcare workers. The accomplishments detailed in the recent Hope Air 2020 Impact Report are an impressive testament to the collective resilience, tenacity and commitment to healthcare for all.

Hope Air has been chosen as one of Canada’s best 100 charities in 2020 by Maclean’s magazine, MoneySense magazine and Charity Intelligence based on efficiency, transparency and need.

The Opportunity

Hope Air is seeking a Chief Development Officer to lead continued revenue growth from generous donors including foundations, corporations, and individuals as well as fundraising events. This role oversees a team of six talented and passionate members, and all related marketing and communications programs, including digital and social channels, to scale donations and deepen engagement. Reporting to the CEO, the Chief Development Officer will work closely with the CEO and leadership team, the Board, Advisory Council, Revenue Generation Committee, and staff and volunteers to support the strategic priorities to grow awareness of and financial support for the organization.

Hope Air is a well-performing national charity with a mission that has undeniable appeal. For the right leader, this is a unique and wonderful opportunity to have positive impact on the lives of Canadians who struggle to access the healthcare they need. Caring and patient-centric, the organization explores new and creative options to address those needs, and sees significant opportunity to continue to grow.
