WJS Canada is hiring Social Services workers to care for the individuals (adults and children and youth) within our programs; a variety of positions (i.e. Casual / Part-Time / Full-Time) and locations hiring NOW!

We are currently hiring for Residential Child and Youth Workers (RCYW) - essential service positions. Each of our programs has implemented additional safety measures for the health and safety of our employees and persons served, in compliance with Government recommendations.


The Residential Child and Youth Worker (RCYW) provides care to children, youth or adults with moderate to severe behavioural problems in a residential or day program setting in an accredited agency. As key worker for assigned persons served, the RCYW is responsible for overall development and care of those individuals. In conjunction with the individual’s care team, the RCYW assesses physical, psychological, social and developmental needs, and designs and implements individualized personal service plans and plans of care that address and meet those needs. The RCYW also participates in the operation and maintenance of the program.


Available positions within the programs in the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley require union membership with CUPE and employees must be available to work a variety of roles and shifts such as weekdays, weekends and evening shifts, that could include (but not limited to) scheduling of 0700-1500, 0800-1600, 1300-2100, 1600-2400 and 2400-0800.


As an ideal candidate you possess:

  • A diploma or degree in one of the humanities, social work or related field. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of two years recent related experience in child and youth care, or a combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Previous experience with operating a licensed home and trauma informed practice
  • Valid BC Driver’s License and clean driver’s abstract with a reliable, safe vehicle that has appropriate insurance

Other Requirements:

  • Valid CPR/First Aid, WHMIS, and Food Hygiene and Sanitation certificates (or ability to obtain within probation period)
  • Non-Violent Physical Crisis Intervention Certificate and/or MANDT and Conflict Resolution Certificate (or ability to obtain within probation period)
  • Physician’s note confirming suitability, including immunization records and a negative tuberculosis screening test
  • Positive behavior supports experience
  • Familiarity in clients with vision loss, wheelchairs and/or epilepsy would be an asset at some programs

*Prior to being able to work at any Children and Youth programs, applicants will be required to participate in the mandatory MCFD screening as a condition of confirmed employment with WJS Canada.**
