You are a Training and Development professional looking for your next opportunity to exercise your analytical and instructional skills in a fast-paced environment. Reporting to the General Manager, Human Resources, the Training & Development Specialist is responsible for coordinating, delivering, and supporting learning programs for the BC SPCA as part of our strategic initiatives.  This position will also act as administrator for the central learning management system and will work with subject matter experts to develop learning content.

 

You will use adult learning principles to design and develop learning activities that meet the challenges of a complex organization, with multiple locations spread over a wide geographic area and in a union environment. You are well organized and comfortable working independently as well as part of a team. You have the ability and desire to influence others with tact and skill.

 

Things you need to have:

  • Completion of a diploma or degree in adult and continuing education or relevant discipline, plus 8 years’ related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable to the Employer; related experience includes but is not limited to:
    • Designing, implementing, and evaluating training and development courses
    • Delivering a variety of learning programs – both in-person and electronically
    • Acting as administrator for a learning management system
    • Working collaboratively with subject matter experts to create course material that is accessible to a wide audience
    • Conducting learning needs assessments
    • Forecasting training budgets
  • Professional designation, experience configuring a learning management system, and experience working in a unionized environment are considered assets
  • Demonstrated knowledge of instructional methods and training techniques
  • Coaching, training, and facilitation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to organize work, meet priorities and to work with demanding work within demanding work schedules
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, customer service and presentation skills
  • Strong computer skills; high proficiency with Microsoft Office and learning development software such as Storyline Articulate, Camtasia, Moodle, etc.
  • Ability to exercise a high level of professionalism and discretion with confidential and sensitive information
  • Philosophical harmony with the vision, mission, and strategic directions of the BC SPCA
