Position Title: T.A.N.G. (Towards A New Generation) Youth Program Coordinator

Start Date: September 1, 2021

End Date: December 31, 2021

Hours of Work: Full time (35 hours per week)

  • Tuesday to Friday 11:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
  • Saturday 9:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m.

Salary: Based on Qualification & Experience

Work Location: Downtown office (Southwest office as needed)

Job Description

The T.A.N.G. Youth Program Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and evaluation of strength based programming primarily for Chinese/Asian youths between eleven and fifteen years old based in the downtown office. Learning opportunities and interactive activities are centered on Search Institute’s Developmental Asset Framework. Proficiency in conversational Cantonese/Mandarin is an asset to communicate and engage Chinese parents with language barriers. This position reports to the Acting Executive Director.



  1. Research and develop programming for youth
  • Assess and communicate with youths in the community to determine their needs and interest
  • Communicate with parents to identify needs and gaps in programming
  • Ensure a variety of workshops, recreational, and cultural opportunities are planned reflecting program outcomes in the Program Logic Model
  • Connect with local community networks to support enhance programming for youth
  • Seek partnerships where appropriate
  1. Implement and deliver activities for youth
  • Deliver fun and safe educational and recreational afterschool and Saturday programs (virtual and in-person) to youth age 11 to 15 
  • Deliver programming suitable for immigrant youth
  • Build healthy relationships and be a role model to youth
  • Provide behaviour management, direct supervision, support, and mentoring to youth ensuring positive relationships occur
  • Provide academic support in math, science, social studies, and language arts
  • Provide a safe, engaging and positive space for youth
  • Deliver programs until 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays
  • Deliver programs on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
  1. Promote youth programs
  • Engage youth and families to participate in programs
  • Create advertising materials
  • Promote youth programs on agency’s website, social media, and in community newspapers
  • Ensure program information is available to public, staff and parents
  1. Administer youth programs
  • Ensure program evaluations are completed and recorded
  • Maintain up-to-date records on participants and volunteers
  • Submit expenses and timesheets monthly
  • Manage the youth program budget
  • Provide yearly reports on inputs and outputs
  • Ensure that all programs and activities are implemented according to relevant guidelines, policies and procedures
  • Follow all safety and cleaning protocols set out by AHS and the organization
  1. Supervise other program personnel
  • Support and provide feedback to program assistants
  • Work collaboratively as a team with program assistant to provide a positive work environment
  • Recruit, train, and manage program assistants
  • Recruit, train, and manage volunteers
  1. Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Post-secondary graduate in a related human service field with a focus on child and youth development and/or social work
  • Experience in strength based program development, implementation, and assessment
  • Experience in using virtual platforms to deliver programming
  • Strong communication (both written and oral) in English
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in conversational Cantonese/Mandarin
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Possess cultural awareness and sensitivities
  • Ability to exercise good judgement and sound decision making
  • Able to be physically active
  • Valid Driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • Possess current first aid certificate
