L’Arche Greater Vancouver, a small non-profit organization with the vision to create an intentional community of people with and without developmental disabilities, is seeking a full-time live-in House Assistant.

L’Arche welcomes Assistants to live, work, and learn together with men and women with developmental disabilities in our communities.  Founded in 1964, L'Arche strives to shape a more human and just society.

"Assistants" support core members (men and women with developmental disabilities) in their daily life.  Responsibilities will include providing personal care, helping to support positive social interactions, providing social, recreational and leisure activities, meal preparations and household tasks. We cook and eat dinner together, get together with friends, participate in activities in our neighborhoods, go on vacation together, and celebrate often.

Through friendship and relationships with our members with developmental disabilities, Assistants gain valuable life skills and opportunities for personal growth and leadership.

We are looking for people who want to spend time with adults with developmental disabilities, work cooperatively in a multicultural environment and be part of a community.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in supporting people with developmental disabilities or seniors is an asset
  • Physically fit and ability to lift and do transfers
  • Ability to handle emergency situations
  • Ability to be flexible and proactive in responding to the changing needs of people with developmental disabilities.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • A valid class 5 driver's license 
  • Valid Emergency First Aid and CPR level C
  • Compliance with provincial immunization requirements and TB screening
  • A clear criminal record check (BC Vulnerable Adult Sector screening)
  • 3 References (2 professional 1 personal)

Salary: based on experience and education background

Start date: Immediately

End date: Minimum 2 months
