The Position:

 

Title: Functional Family Therapy (FFT) Counsellor

Job Type: Full or Part time. 2 contract positions available August 1, 2021 to September 30, 2022

 

Are you passionate about family-based counselling and would like the opportunity to strengthen your skills within an evidence-based, systemic framework? If this sounds like you, we are currently seeking a counsellor to join our Functional Family Therapy (FFT) program. FFT is a community based, short-term prevention and treatment strategy that is family focused and designed to reduce the risks of school truancy, mental health concerns, criminal involvement, substance abuse and family conflict. Training in the modality is provided, as FFT counsellors are expected to exercise a high degree of clinical skill while maintaining adherence to a sophisticated, evidence-based model. Flexibility will be required to conduct sessions in families’ homes, working 2-3 evenings per week.

 

Qualifications Required:

  • Graduate degree in Social Work, Psychology or related discipline;
  • Eligible and in good standing with professional governing body;
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of clinical experience with high-risk populations;
  • Strong systemic orientation to counseling;
  • Demonstrated ability to engage families and their natural supports;
  • Strong teamwork skills and willingness to learn, alongside a growth mindset;
  • Ability to work within a collaborative environment with program partners;
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills;
  • Highly organized with strong administrative skills;
  • Effective time management skills and ability to manage a demanding schedule;
  • Use of a vehicle and ability to drive throughout Calgary and surrounding areas;
  • The Core Brain Story Certification through The Alberta Family Wellness Initiative, as wellas the Natural Supports Framework is an asset;
  • Applicants are encouraged to present with a current Criminal Record Check,Vulnerable Sector Review and a Child Intervention Record Check.
