This post is permanent part time, at 30 hours per week.

 

JOB SUMMARY

The Therapy Assistant provides support to the early intervention services team including direct and indirect treatment activities and non-client-specific activities as assigned and supervised by a Physiotherapist (PT), Occupational Therapist (OT) and/or Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) in accordance with the guidelines established in the: College of Speech and Hearing Health Professionals of BC Clinical Practice Guideline Use of Support Personnel; College of Physical Therapists of BC Practice Standard for Assignment of Task to a Physical Therapist Support Worker; and / or College of Occupational Therapists of BC Practice Guideline for Assigning of Service Components to Unregulated Support Personnel.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Uses assigned screening protocols and provides results to the therapist for interpretation;
  • Plans and implements a variety of assigned client activities for individual and group therapy sessions in accordance with goals / objectives / strategies identified by the therapist;
  • Provides verbal / written feedback and reports on goals achieved to the therapist
  • Observes clients and their environment while implementing activities and strategies and reports any changes to the therapist
  • Documents therapy sessions in client files;
  • Adapts and modifies established activities and strategies in consultation with the therapist to meet the needs of the children as required;
  • Assists with assessment and therapy sessions as assigned;
  • Maintains daily statistical data according to program guidelines;
  • Prepares materials for therapy sessions, home use and educational sessions in consultation with therapist;
  • Ensures a safe environment by observing universal precautions and infection control procedures and abiding by all regulations regarding safety;
  • Schedules appointments as required;
  • Participates in staff meetings and client meetings with supervising therapist;
  • Operates equipment such as video cameras during therapy and educational sessions;
  • Sets up and cleans up materials, furnishings, and equipment for therapy and educational sessions;
  • Performs administrative support duties as required;
  • Performs computer related duties including updating website and preparing materials for therapy sessions;
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • JOB QUALIFICATIONS

     

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

    • Graduate of a recognized Therapist Assistant Diploma program
    • Or two (2) years or two thousand hours experience and practice working with children under the supervision of a certified Speech-Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, and / or Physiotherapist;
    • Or equivalent combination of education, training and experience working under the supervision of a certified Speech-Language Pathologist or Occupational Therapist.
    • Current Emergency First Aid and CPR
    • Consent to a Criminal Record Check with RCMP and Solicitor General
    • Negative Tuberculin Test
    • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s license and a Driver’s abstract
    • Access to reliable transportation
    • Physician’s Approval form completed for required duties.
