Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) Classroom Assistant



The LINC Classroom Assistant will report to, and receive mentoring from, the LINC Instructors and LINC Coordinator. 


The LINC Classroom Assistant will support the instructors in class. Duties may include, but are not limited to, photocopying, recording attendance, tracking assessments, assisting with breakout groups, working with individuals, and assisting the teacher with whatever is needed. This position is critical in supporting and enhancing the function of the classroom, and the student experience.


The ideal candidate will have:

  • a sensitivity for intercultural and inclusive communities;
  • excellence in verbal, written and interpersonal communications;
  • post-secondary education (language-related preferred);
  • TESL/TESOL or equivalent certification preferred;
  • demonstrated success in relationship building;
  • the ability to stay focussed (with a positive attitude) in a hectic and noisy office environment;
  • the ability to work flexible hours;
  • the ability to receive coaching from the instructor they are working with;
  • outstanding organizational and computer skills (Microsoft office suite);
  • the ability to share in the vision and mission of CIS, and engage others in support of CIS.


This position is very part-time and involves working in-person 5-7 hours per week over 2 days each week. Classes range between 2 and 3.5 hours each.


This position begins the week of September 13th, 2021 and runs through the week of June 20th, 2022. We are seeking an assistant to work with us on an ongoing basis each LINC school year (September-June).


The hourly wage is between $19 and $21 per hour. Starting wage is commensurate with experience.

Job Description – LINC Classroom Assistant



Assist LINC Instructors, Students and LINC Coordinator – Estimated time 95%

  • Provide direct language support and guidance to students, where determined appropriate by the LINC Instructors.
  • Photocopy, file, prepare materials and generally assist the LINC Instructor.
  • Assist with tracking PBLA assessments utilizing an excel spreadsheet.
  • Assist in the integration and cross promotions of Settlement and Integration, Languages, and other CIS programs.


Other Responsibilities – Estimated 5%

  • Potentially participate in occasional meetings & activities and attend the Annual General Meeting (AGM).
