Elevate is a purpose-driven not-for-profit committed to uniting the world’s innovators to solve society’s greatest challenges. In partnership with the United Nations, Elevate offers year-round tech, innovation and sustainability programs via the Elevate Social Innovation Exchange (Elevate SIX).

 

In 2021, Elevate launched Elevate Talent working with Community Partners across the GTHA with a rapid workforce development program for underrepresented communities. By collaborating with community, employment and learning partners, the project will match training to the more than 70,000 open jobs in the tech and innovation sector.

Position

Who you are

You are a natural people connector and collaborator, who is passionate about supporting impactful programs to improve economic opportunities for those experiencing multiple barriers to employment. You have experience developing culturally-appropriate relationships with Indigenous communities and Indigenous-led organizations. You are an exceptional communicator who is skilled at leading community outreach activities and increasing visibility through public awareness campaigns. 

 

You are familiar with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action and employ a holistic, person-centered approach to community engagement. You have experience working in the skills development, employment and workforce development fields and centre Indigenous world views in your approach. You are adaptable, dynamic and not shy to bring new ideas forward in a collaborative working environment.

 

The opportunity

In this role, you will:

  • Report to the Director of Community Engagement and manage the Indigenous community engagement strategy development and implementation for Elevate Talent
  • Build new relationships with community partners, provide support to community partners for the implementation and development of the program and reduce barriers to participation
  • Steward relationships with leaders in the Indigenous education, skills development, workforce development and employment sector
  • Establish strong relationships with community partner staff, success advisors and community members to promote collaboration and ensure a clear flow communication among internal and external stakeholders
  • Oversee research, needs assessments and knowledge translation activities in partnership with the monitoring and evaluation (M&E) team using a community-based approach
  • Work collaboratively across the Elevate team to advise on best practices for community engagement and program design for Indigenous communities
  • Additional tasks and responsibilities of a similar nature will expand as we continue to grow

Required Skills

What you bring

  • 4 or more years of experience working in collaboration with Indigenous communities and Indigenous-led organizations in a multi-stakeholder environment
  • A post-secondary degree aligned to the job function (e.g., community development, Indigenous studies, community/public affairs, social work, etc.) and/or equivalent relevant experience 
  • The ability to foster strong, collaborative relationships and create feedback loops to shape community programs, plans and objectives
  • Effective project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage various components of the project
  • The ability to work effectively across multiple teams
  • Excellent listening, interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Proficiency Google Workplace (G Suite), Slack, Zoom, Salesforce and/or other relevant technologies.
  • Proficiency in an Indigenous language or languages and/or French is an asset

Benefits and Compensation

  • Full-time position based in the GTHA (remote work options available)
  • Health and dental benefits after successful completion of a 3-month probationary period
  • Two weeks’ vacation with additional time off over the winter holiday and company-wide holidays
  • Starting salary of $65,000 per year
