About You:

You are a feminist, passionate about the work of ending violence against women and children. You embrace Atira’s mission, vision, values, and philosophy. You have a well-developed understanding of and commitment to anti-oppression work and intersectionality. You are familiar with colonialism especially as it applies in Canada and you understand the impact of the residential school system. You are committed to working with women who are struggling with substance use and or mental wellness and understand and are comfortable working within a harm reduction environment. Your definition of a woman includes transgender, two-spirit, and intersex women and individuals whose gender expression is femme. You support sex worker rights. You have significant experience as a front-line support worker working with women affected by violence/abuse, combined with relevant education and or skill-based training. You have worked in a role supervising and supporting front-line support workers. Lived expertise is an asset, as is living in the community in which you work. About the Job:

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Community Kitchen Coordinator, will develop, facilitate and implement a Community Kitchen Program that supports & encourages the women to actively attend and participate. The Community Kitchen Coordinator will plan, coordinate and deliver all aspects of the community kitchen program including but not limited to planning community meals; teaching basic cooking and kitchen skills; budgeting for supplies; keeping the kitchen clean/sanitary, and promoting/encouraging cooperation among participants. You are expected to connect and cultivate relationships with like community organizations and programs. You are expected to maintain strong working relationships with and awareness of complementary programs and groups in the community and have specific knowledge regarding available community resources, private and government. You are expected to be aware of all resources available to community kitchen programs. You will facilitate community cooking but also connect women to food security programs including organizing outings to the food bank, Quest, etc.

 

You Have/Will be Required to Have:

 

  • Minimum one-year front-line support work experience doing community kitchens; preference given to candidates with lived expertise
  • Passionate about all aspects of cooking
  • Food Safe Certificate is required
  • A Valid First Aid Certificate is required
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certificate is an asset
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position
