This is a temporary 14 week contract.

The Evaluation Assistant-CSJ operates within a team environment in a hybrid work environment.   This role supports outcomes-based evaluation for VA as a whole and assists with the evaluation and reporting required for programs and services. The Evaluation Assistant-CSJ works with other VA team members as needed to help identify trends, find practical and timely solutions to manage issues/concerns from service providers and users, as well as provide coordination for relevant meetings.

While this position plays a role in all of Volunteer Alberta’s strategic priorities, it specifically advances Volunteer Alberta’s role as a catalyst – through feedback loops, adaptation and strengthening VA’s internal capacity.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify opportunities for Volunteer Alberta to measure the impact of its work towards its mission, and create processes for tracking data and stories
  • Provide organizational support for evaluation and impact measurement strategies, resources, redesign, data tracking, and reviews
  • Provide evaluation support for Volunteer Alberta overall, including monitoring, tracking, and analysis of data and stories for high level reporting
  • Co-create resources and provide advice and training for VA staff on evaluation processes
  • Conduct process and outcome evaluations for programs and services, including creating and redesigning measurement strategies, data tracking, feedback loops and monitoring:
  • Realign and collect reporting data for the Enhanced Capacity Advancement Program (ECAP)
  • Create an evaluation plan and measurement tracking for the Intersectionality initiative.
  • Create an evaluation plan, support new evaluation mechanisms (surveys, focus groups, interviews, etc.) for the Volunteer Screening Program (VSP) – Community Assessments
  • Participate in the creation and interpretation of surveys and other research projects
  • Conduct process research and data collection, and program trend monitoring/research
  • Assist with the drafting of evaluation components of proposals, reports, and updates for various Volunteer Alberta programs and initiatives


  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment;
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment; and
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
  • Currently in or having obtained Post-Secondary degree/diploma in business, evaluation, or other relevant field of study. Related experience will also be considered.
  • Practical experience with program-level and organization-level evaluation.
  • Ability to analyze quantitative and qualitative data and synthesize it for others in brief and visual manners.
  • Project management and organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple demands
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent computer/technology skills (ex. MS Office, Mural, online project management software)
  • Evaluation experience at both strategic and operational/program levels would be an asset
  • Experience working in a nonprofit/voluntary sector organization and as a volunteer
