The BC SPCA is looking to fill the temporary full-time position of Animal Centre Manager at our busy Kamloops location.  This position is for approximately 3-6 months.

This position is accountable for the management and coordination of staff and activities in the Kamloops Community Animal Centre. This position ensures operating budget of this location is adhered to and provides overall optimum care for the animals within the assigned area of responsibility. This position will also develop and maintain relationships within the community, promoting public awareness of these locations and their services. You will promote the BC SPCA’s mission and implement provincial initiatives within the facilities and surrounding community. You are also responsible for the health and safety of staff and volunteers as well as maintaining a clean and safe environment for the public.

You will use your strong management skills to lead a team of dedicated staff and foster a positive work environment. You will have a hands-on approach and always believe in the highest standards of care and welfare for animals. At the BC SPCA, you will engage with committed colleagues in your community who are motivated to continuously improve the lives of animals. 

Knowledge, skills, and abilities to succeed in this role: 

  • Post-secondary education in an applicable field plus a minimum of 5 years’ related experience (3 of which must be in a supervisory role) or an equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable to the employer. Related experience includes, but is not limited to:
  • Working in animal welfare
  • Working in the non-profit sector, with familiarity with fundraising and volunteer management/relations
  • Scheduling and financial management
  • Proven visionary leader with the ability to inspire people to achieve great things
  • Must have a genuine compassion for animals and sound knowledge of the Five Freedoms and related animal welfare standards
  • Demonstrated ability to organize work, meet priorities and to work within a demanding work schedules with minimal supervision
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders at all levels in a positive manner
  • Excellent presentation and public speaking skills
  • Must have a valid BC Class 5 Drivers License
  • Computer skills – Windows, MS Office incl. PowerPoint and Excel
  • Philosophical harmony with the BC SPCA mission, vision, and strategic directions
