Contract: Six month initial contract, with a possibility

of extension

Hours: 32-40 hours/week



Working alongside the Executive Director, the Fundraising and Corporate Partnerships will target, research, propose and secure new corporate partners who can provide financial support and concomitant - maximising the partnership potential for TutorMate.


About the Fundraising and Corporate Partnerships Role

You will target, research, engage with and secure the vital new corporate partnerships the

TutorMate program needs to increase the number of volunteers and funding available to support disadvantaged children. You will be an extremely confident communicator who creates tailored, compelling pitches and is results oriented. You will be strategic in your approaches, undaunted by cold-calling and be able to inspire others verbally and in writing. With superb organisational skills, you will have knowledge of the employee engagement landscape and a genuine passion for ensuring all children can read. Working days can be arranged flexibly.


This is a remote working position however you must be residing in, and have the right to work in Canada.


About Innovations for Learning

We believe learning how to read is a basic human right. Established in Canada in 2018 and

registered as a Canadian charity in 2019, Innovations for Learning is a 27-year-old global

education nonprofit whose mission is to increase beginning reading abilities in the students we serve with our TutorMate program, which combines high dosage tutoring and enrichment

tutoring for struggling Kindergarten and Grade 1 students. Our specially trained Early Literacy Interventionists use our proprietary TutorMate software to provide 1:1, high dosage tutoring in phonics, sight word acquisition, fluency, and comprehension. This gives students in need more individualized instruction than the classroom teacher is able to provide.

In the first program of its kind in Canada, we also partner with local, national, and global

corporations who recruit an army of virtual volunteers to provide enrichment tutoring through our custom online literacy platform. Virtual volunteer reading coaches safely contribute 30 minutes each week during the school year through reading stations we install in participating Grade 1 classrooms. In this half-hour, as remote reading buddies, they share stories and read games together helping to build confidence and reading for pleasure. TutorMate’s specialist software leverages innovative technology to deliver evidence-based,

equity-focused, and individualized responses to barriers in education, leveling the playing field for at-risk children in under-resourced areas and putting them on the path to success in school and in life. Our programs are philanthropically supported, affordable, scalable and do not require teacher re-training of new curriculum. IFL represents the optimal fusion of technology, volunteerism, and corporate philanthropy to enable meaningful human connections that improve the opportunities and future of at-risk and marginalized children.


Main Responsibilities

● Support Executive Director (ED) to develop a new business strategy, targeting

companies that fit well with IFL’s mission to improve literacy for disadvantaged children

● Work alongside ED to achieve new business target of 450 volunteers (and associated

$225,000 in financial contributions) for Fall 2021

● Ensure pipeline moves forward consistently and prospect conversations progress

● Network externally and conduct sector research to create strong prospect lists

● Draft compelling new business pitches and materials to share with prospects

● Ensure all new corporate partnerships have an agreed plan/MOU that clearly states

volunteer targets, value of partnership and method of payment

● Assist ED to grow and develop relationships with existing partners to ensure long term,

sustainable partnerships which maximise contributions and volunteer numbers

● Act as a strong charity ambassador, ensuring relationships are always well-managed

and mutually beneficial

● Ensure that Salesforce and other organisational records such as excel spreadsheets are

kept up to date with all relevant information relating to new partners

● Produce and keep up to date corporate materials including relevant sections of the

website, provide information regarding corporate partnerships for organisational

communications when required

● Work with and support International IFL affiliates where appropriate


Skills & Qualifications


● Experience working with a non-profit organisation

● Demonstrable experience of negotiating and securing new business from cold


● Proven ability to draft compelling commercial pitches and present to prospects

● Experience of growing, forecasting and tracking a business development pipeline either

in a corporate fundraising, commercial sales or marketing environment

● Experience of engaging and influencing individuals at all levels of a business

● Experience of curating strategic prospect lists for approach

● Track record of achieving and exceeding personal targets

● Excellent understanding of employee engagement landscape and corporate social

responsibility structures in Canadian businesses

● Ability to think strategically

● Ability to manage a varied workload and work under pressure

● Strong IT skills and database management, ideally with Salesforce
