Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) – Temporary, Full-time 0.80 FTE

We are seeking a RPN who has an interest in or experience with providing the highest quality palliative and end-of-life care. As part of a small cohesive team, the RPN, within the full-scope of practice will provide patient and family-centered care in our hospice residence.   

Work Location: Kanata, Hein House at Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice, 110 Cameron Avenue

Position Details:

  • Term position until June 2022
  • 4 shifts, 32 hours per week scheduled
  • Day and Evening shifts, no overnights
  • 2 weekends off per month

The Line - the successful candidate will work the following: 

Week 1:        Days:  Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Friday 

Week 2:        Days:  Monday, Tuesday   

                      Evenings:  Friday, Saturday

Week 3:        Evenings:  Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday

Week 4:        Days: Monday, Friday, Saturday

                      Evening: Tuesday        

A Successful Candidate will Possess:

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Current CPR
  • LEAP Certification (Learning Essential Approaches to Palliative Care), or willingness to obtain within 6 months
  • Experience in and/or knowledge of hospice palliative and end-of-life care
  • Understands ethics as they relate to hospice palliative care
  • Physically able to assist bedridden and disabled patients
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal, in English
  • Ability to communicate in French or other languages is an asset

Hospice Care Ottawa programs include day hospice, home support, family services and residential hospice services. Hospice Care Ottawa relies on and values the contribution of over 700 volunteers who contribute to every aspect of our programs.

Hein House at Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice - opened in September 2017 is a 12-bed hospice residence in west Ottawa - Kanata. It provides round the clock care for people at the end of life, in a home-like and peaceful setting.
