Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) – Full-time 0.80 FTE

We are seeking a RPN who has an interest in or experience with providing the highest quality palliative and end-of-life
care. As part of a small cohesive team, the RPN, within the full-scope of practice will provide patient and family-centered
care in our hospice residence.

Work Location: Kanata, Hein House at Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice, 110 McCurdy Drive
Position Details:

  • Full-time, Permanent, 0.80 FTE
  • Eligible for Group Benefits package
  • Eligible for paid personal/sick time
  • 4 shifts / 32 hours per week, 4 week rotation
  • 2 weekends off per month

The Line: The successful candidate will work the following schedule

Week 1: Days - 4 shifts; Weekend OFF

Week 2: Nights - 4 shifts

Week 3: Night (1), Days (3); Weekend OFF

Week 4: Evenings (3), Days (1)

A Successful Candidate will Possess:

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Current CPR 
  • LEAP Certification (Learning Essential Approaches to Palliative Care), or willingness to obtain within 6 months
  • Experience in/or knowledge of hospice palliative and end-of-life care
  • Understands ethics as they relate to hospice palliative care
  • Physically able to assist bedridden and disabled patients
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal, in English
  • Ability to communicate in French or other languages is an asset

Hospice Care Ottawa is a community-based charitable organization providing high quality end-of-life care for terminally ill people living in Ottawa. Services aim to provide residents and their loved ones with an experience in palliative and end-of-life care which is supportive and peaceful, surrounded by caring that reflects as closely as possible to a comfortable home environment. Hospice Care Ottawa programs include day hospice, home support, family services and residential hospice services. Hein House at Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice - opened in September 2017, is a 12-bed hospice residence that provides round the clock care for patients at the end of life, in a home like, peaceful setting.
