About the Position:

The Senior Manager is responsible for leading, developing, implementing, and evaluating S.U.C.C.E.S.S.’s advocacy and community relations strategies to advance S.U.C.C.E.S.S.’s mandate and priorities. Works closely with the Director of Strategic Communications & Partnerships as well as programs/departments to foster positive relationships with a wide range of community stakeholders across various sectors. 

Reports to: Director, Strategic Communications & Partnership

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Guide the development, implementation, and evaluation of the organization’s advocacy and community relations strategies, plans, and activities as aligned with S.U.C.C.E.S.S.’s mandate and priorities 
  • Provide leadership, coordination, consultation, and guidance to the organization’s departments/programs to ensure effective, relevant, consistent, and impactful community stakeholder relations (including governments, community and corporate partners) 
  • Coordinate and support community relations events and activities
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge about best practices in advocacy and community relations, and provide subject-matter expertise and support to departments/programs
  • Develop and implement plan, including key performance indicators, to measure and monitor the effectiveness of the organization’s advocacy and community relations activities
  • Develop, implement, and oversee the use of various printed and digital communication tools, resources, messaging, guidelines, best practices, and processes that support the implementation of the organization’s advocacy and community relations strategies and activities 
  • Develop presentations, white papers, briefing materials, fact sheets, position papers, policy papers, and other written materials that are used for advocacy and community relations 
  • Build, foster, and sustain positive relationships with a wide range of community stakeholders and partners in order to advance S.U.C.C.E.S.S.’s mandate and priorities 
  • Build positive awareness about S.U.C.C.E.S.S. and its programs, services, and community impacts among a wide range of stakeholders 
  • Keep up-to-date on developments in communities related to S.U.C.C.E.S.S.’s mandate and priorities, and advise the Director of Strategic Communications & Partnerships on potential risks, issues, and opportunities  
  • Support the organization with the prevention, mitigation, and management of risks and issues related to community relations  
  • Engage and supervise staff, contractors, and/or volunteers in the implementation of the organization’s advocacy and community relations strategies and activities  

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, Community Engagement, or related field 
  • Minimum 3 years of leadership experience in social services sector 
  • Minimum 3 years of leadership experience in community relations  
  • Experience in developing, overseeing, and implementing advocacy and community relations strategies and plans  
  • Experience in developing and implementing guidelines, best practices, and policies related to advocacy and community relations  

Job Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledgeable about social services sector in Canada  
  • Knowledgeable about principles, approaches, and practices for effective advocacy and community relations  
  • Excellent relationship management skills to effectively engage a broad range of internal and external stakeholders across various sectors 
  • Strong project planning and management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deal with emerging priorities  
  • Strong leadership abilities and sound judgement  
  • Able to utilize tact and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive matters  
  • Able to thinking critically and solve problems creatively 
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills  
  • Understand the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion  
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication and presentation skills, including ability to use inclusive language  
  • Strong skills in MS Office, SharePoint, and other communication channels   

Supervisory Responsibility:

Staff, contractors, and volunteers in the implementation of the organization’s advocacy and community relations strategies and activities.

  • Able to work evenings and weekends as required
