The Learning Enrichment Foundation (LEF) is a not-for-profit (with a social enterprise mindset) that provides a multidisciplinary and holistic set of supports for members of our community including those who are: in transition, new to Canada, out of the workforce, and a host of other individual circumstances.  We currently knit together Settlement Services, Child Care, Employment Supports, Skills Training, and Language Training.

Position Summary:  

We are looking for a team member who works as part of an integrated team. In this role as Client Engagement Worker- Youth Employment, you will work as part of LEF’s new Launch Your Career youth employment program. This role will take into consideration the strengths and assets, to develop in-depth relationships with the youth to build integrated action plans for success and sustain long-term relationships for ongoing support.

 

This role will also seek employment opportunities from employers, building relationships with them, and increasing the diversity of opportunities available to our youth.

 

This role requires the strength to adapt to rapidly changing circumstances and the flexibility to respond creatively to enable individuals and families to become valued contributors to their community’s social and economic development. As part of the team, you are willing to take on challenges, and work proactively to bring out the best in community members, staff and yourself.

 

Overall Responsibilities:  

  • Provide employment coaching, counselling and workshop facilitation as part of a broader mission of community engagement primarily for youth.
  • Engage and support our community members, especially youth facing multiple barriers to employment to help them achieve their employment goals.
  • Provide ongoing case management including orientation, assessment, guidance, action planning, referrals, solution-focused counselling, settlement, employment supports, & tracks clients’ progress.
  • Comply with the accountability framework, including meeting targets, as set out by the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Develop in-depth relationships with Clients to develop, monitor and follow up actionable plans focused on strengthening of their assets and leading to sustainable livelihood and opportunities.
  • Make connections with employers in the GTA to uncover hidden job opportunities for clients
  • Seek sustainable quality employment opportunities for client’s base on their skills and abilities
  • Monitor employer and client progress while in placement
  • Work collaboratively with the Client Engagement team to develop and implement models of service delivery

 

Qualifications  

  • Must possess a post-secondary degree or diploma in Employment Counseling, Career Development, Social Work, Social Sciences or a combination of relevant education and work experience
  • Personal and professional commitment to a community and client-responsive approach
  • Strong understanding of youth trends, challenges and needs, including settlement and employment-related issues
  • Knowledgeable of community resources and services for youth and families
  • Experience in supporting youth who face multiple barriers by providing information about services/programs, employment coaching and establishing connections with employers
  • Successful experience partnering and facilitating joint initiatives with schools, community and youth-related agencies
  • Effective organizational skills; ability to maintain case management records to ensure an accurate profile of clients and assets and challenges
  • Ability to manage an active caseload of 20 to 30 participants
  • Proven experience generating, supervising and leading youth self-development and recreational activities
  • Experience in Job Development including wage subsidy, job placement, and job retention.
  • Awareness of and proven ability to overcome employer objections to hiring people with multiple barriers.
  • Demonstrated success in working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Strong computer skills including social media management
  • Excellent judgment and decision-making skills
  • Results-oriented with strong oral and written communication skills, proven experience in advocacy
  • Self-reliant, dynamic, vibrant relationship builder, motivator and connector
  • Must be able to work evenings and/or weekends
  • The ability to speak another language, an asset
  • Knowledge of the Weston/Mount Dennis neighbourhood, an asset
  • Current Police reference check
  • Proof of COVID vaccinations
  • Ability to work remotely
