Position: Mental Health Worker - Housing Services - Taylor Manor Site

This is a Mental Health Worker Position with the majority of the shift preparing meals for clients.

Day and Time of Work: Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday - 12pm to 8pm

Salary & Compensation: $26.42 per hour

The Kettle Society supports people with mental illness to lead healthier lives by providing support services, advocacy, employment, mentoring and housing. We work to raise awareness of mental health issues, break down stigma and reduce barriers for people with mental illness. Our goal is to promote inclusion of people living with mental illness in all aspects of society.

Job Summary:

In accordance with The Kettle Society values, The Mental Health Worker is responsible for providing direction and support to apartment residents with daily social, emotional, and life skills assistance in line with established care plan procedures. This position is responsible for cooking for residents, cleaning of the kitchen, dining room and common areas. You are also responsible for monitoring the cameras and granting access to residents of the building.

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12
  • Community Social Worker Diploma 2 years of recent related experience including direct practical experience working such as crisis intervention, conflict resolution, psychological rehabilitation techniques, homelessness, working with individuals with mental illness and/or addiction and/or concurrent disorders.
  • Working knowledge of the residential tenancy act OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and life and/or work experience
  • Occupational First Aid (OFA) Level 1
  • WHMIS 2015
  • Food Safe Level 1

Abilities & Skills:

  • Ability to work with people with mental illness, hoarders, homeless at risk and addiction
  • Ability to prep and cook meals followed by clean up for up to 50 people
  • Ability to work with bed bug protocol and assist tenants in management of pests
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others
  • Ability to organize and prioritize
  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport with tenants
  • Ability to observe and recognize changes in tenant
  • Have an understanding of psycho-social rehabilitation and concurrent disorders including theories and methods
  • Conflict resolution and crisis intervention skills
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
