Position Title:                       Program Leader, Youth Leadership Development

Location:                               Tong Louie YMCA with occasional travel to Chilliwack and Langara YMCA

 

Terms:                                   Temporary, Part Time

Hours per week:                  6-10 hours per week

 

Schedule:                             Thursday evenings and may need to work on the weekend occasionally for events, field      trips, training or conferences. Programs run throughout the school year from September to June (no shifts over the summer holidays)

 

Salary:                                    0-519 hours                          $18.16 per hour

                                                After 520 hours                    $18.73 per hour

                                                After 1100 hours                 $19.86 per hour

                                                After 2500 hours                 $20.93 per hour                  

                               

Start Date:                            As soon as possible

End Date:                              December 31, 2021, possibility for extension based on funding

The YMCA’s Youth Leadership Development (YLD) programs help youth ages 10-19 to reach their potential. The program runs during 2-hour weekly evening sessions throughout the school year from September to June. The YLD Program’s goal is to build the potential of young people so that they have the skills to positively impact the community as a young professional.

 

Nature & Scope:

The Youth Leadership Development (YLD) Team Leader supports the Supervisor by providing supervision to YLD staff, volunteers, and participants, while still developing and delivering youth focused programming. Activities include team building, social events, volunteer opportunities, fundraising, training, special events, and a youth conference weekend. The YLD Team Leader reports to the Supervisor of Youth Programs and works collaboratively with other program staff to provide a safe and fun environment.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provide site-specific supervision of Youth leadership Development staff, volunteers, and participants
  • Support and coach program staff and volunteers, by providing feedback, professional growth and evaluations
  • Assist supervisor in recruitment, hiring and training of staff and volunteers
  • Actively interact with youth and lead programs in a positive and professional manner
  • Perform administrative duties such as collecting and inputting sign-in sheets to SharePoint, tracking registration, contracts, documentation, and filling out session evaluation forms after each YLD meeting
  • Assist with curriculum creation based on desired learning outcomes of the YLD Program
  • Deliver safe, fun, and participant focused experiences
  • Create and maintain a positive atmosphere to inspire and work to build positive self-esteem and confidence
  • Facilitate activities to engage youth program participants
  • Ensure the safety of all members, participants, staff, and property by following YMCA standards/policies/ procedures
  • Ensure program site has all resources, equipment and supplies to operate effectively and safely
  • Model appropriate behaviour in line with the Mission, Vision, and Values of the YMCA
  • Promote philanthropy through the YMCA’s annual Strong Kids Campaign
  • Attend staff meetings, planning sessions and training events as required
  • Maintain regular attendance, punctuality and be appropriately dressed

 

Qualifications/Experience: 

  • Minimum one years’ experience working with youth ages 10-18
  • Education in Child & Youth Care or related field is preferred
  • Experience and sensitivity with members of different cultural backgrounds, including visible and invisible dimensions of diversity
  • Established interpersonal and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with youth participants, staff, and volunteers
  • Demonstrated high level of customer service skills
  • Current Standard First Aid certificate with CPR level C & AED (can be obtained before starting)
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six (6) months preceding your start date
  • 3 professional references to be completed
  • The YMCA has implemented a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy requiring all staff and volunteers to be vaccinated as per the timelines set out by the province - one dose by September 13 and second dose by October 24
