Can DO People is a nonprofit agency providing a day program for adults diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, intellectual disabilities and/or exceptional behaviours. The individuals in the program benefit from having a safe, nurturing environment that uses best practice strategies for Autism to meet their complex challenges, an on-site support team of professionals, and exposure and participation in community activities both on-site and in the community at large.   


A Can DO People Life Coach works directly with adult persons enrolled into the organization’s day program. Programming is based on developing adult persons’ vocational, social, recreational and life skills. It also is focused on providing opportunities for adult persons to pursue personal areas of growth and learning.


Life coach's also receive access to a comprehensive benefits package including prescription coverage, dental, Life insurance, extended health care and much more.


Specific skills required for the position include:

  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills required with working with individuals living with Autism or who have unique and challenging behaviors.

  • Work collaboratively with the team to develop, implement and support program plans and individual client plans to ensure the best quality of service and care is provided.

  • Provide opportunities for individuals to develop relationships within the community and to assist individuals to develop positive social interactions.

  • Model positive, appropriate communication, social and life skills.

  • Demonstrate leadership skills in planning, preparing, implementing, assessing and reporting individual programs and group activities.

  • Communicate clearly and effectively using oral, written and nonverbal forms

Essential skills for the position include:

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that can be physically demanding at times;
  • Ability to work under pressure in a variety of community settings and on-site;
  • Leadership abilities;

  • Ability to communicate effectively in written, oral and nonverbal forms;

  • Work in a team;

  • Possess integrity; critical thinking and initiative;

  • Knowledge of basic computer skills; comfortable using or learning about technology;

  • And willingness to engage in professional learning.

Preferred Skills (but not required):

  • Post- secondary education
    • Certificate in Disability and Community Support
    • Educational Assistant Certificate
    • Health Care Aide Certificate
  • Experience in the field 
  • Experience in working with individuals living with Autism
  • Own a vehicle (preferred) and be willing to use vehicle to transport adult persons


  • Criminal Record Check (Less than 3 months since issued)

  • Adult Abuse Registry Check (Less than 3 months since issued)

  • Child Abuse Registry Check (Less than 3 months since issued)

  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training

  • First Aid and CPR
