The Sunshine Coast Foundation

Are you a collaborative and experienced non-profit leader ready to lead a well-established and respected non-profit organization? Are you seasoned at managing change?  Our client, the Sunshine Coast Foundation is looking for their next Executive Director, working 25 hours per week from their home, to lead a vital organization in supporting communities in providing stable and sustainable financial support to charitable organizations.

The Beautiful Sunshine Coast of BC

The Sunshine Coast of BC, long touted as a 180 KM stretch of paradise, gains its rich heritage from the original inhabitants – the Coast Salish people. It is a contemporary hub that balances abundant, natural beauty and a surplus of adventure with growing industry sectors in technology, retail and tourism. Located just a 40-minute ferry away from Vancouver, “The Coast” also counts on forestry, cultural arts, and fishing to support the area.

The Sunshine Coast Foundation

The Sunshine Coast Foundation is seeking a value driven and passionate leader who can further their reputation and impact as a respected and valuable contributor to the quality of life on the lower Sunshine Coast. The Foundation offers donors the opportunity to increase their impact by pooling the gifts received and carefully investing them. Each year, they use the earnings on investments to provide funding to local charities. They help to connect donors with the causes that inspire them and the charities that are having the greatest positive impact. They compile current and relevant research in helping local organizations and decision-makers understand the issues and trends facing the Sunshine Coast community.

The Sunshine Coast Foundation is a member of Community Foundations of Canada, a network of nearly 200 foundations supporting their local communities from coast to coast to coast. Please visit sunshinecoastfoundation.org for more information.

What Will the Executive Director Undertake?

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director (ED) is responsible for the successful leadership and management of the Sunshine Coast Foundation according to the strategic direction set by the Board of Directors and consistent with the Foundation’s vision and mission. As the ED you will partner with the Board of Directors in developing and executing the organization's strategic plan, developing the annual operation plan and budget, and leading the daily management of the Foundation’s services, directly overseeing two part time staff and collaborating with Advisors and other volunteers. The ED supports the work of several Board committees, including the Investment and Oversight Committee in ensuring that investments are stewarded in a responsible and prudent manner and fosters the values of the Sunshine Coast Foundation. The ED oversees the grants management process that results in dozens of grants to local charities each year. The ED also engages in meaningful relationships with the community and past and present donors, providing advice and guidance in the growth of their endowment funds. The ED will also be responsible for pursuing opportunities to secure funding for operational expenses from foundations, sponsors, municipal grants, and other sources.
