Job Developer

 

This is a 10-month contract position.

The incumbent for this position will have a Bachelor of Social Work Degree from an accredited university and/or an equivalent combination of experience plus a diploma from a community college in a related field. The ideal candidate will be bilingual, fluent in French and English, along with an understanding of and ability to relate to the diverse populations within Toronto.

 

You will bring a combination of direct experience in providing employment preparation and job placement services to at risk individuals. The focus of work for this position is to secure employment placements for youth involved in CTI’s employment programs. You will be responsible for initiating a liaison with employers, prospective employers and ensuring that we have a variety of employment based experiences from which to introduce  our client in creating an employment experience. Your task is to develop commitments for a variety of employment placements that introduce participants to the labour market and the skills required to maintain employment. Our goal is to develop internship placements which facilitate career development opportunities.

 

MAJOR DUTIES

 

The focus of work for this position will include responsibility for the development of individual participant goals and plans geared to personal development and opportunities for positive change for program participants. You will also be expected to coach/mentor and provide participants with relevant and evidence-based service interventions to promote assets, competency, and resiliency. You will assume service coordination functions while acting as an advocate and providing information and referrals to program participants. Mentoring and counselling program participants to encourage social inclusion, job retention, and engaging these program participants to identify issues, needs, goals, aspirations, skills, abilities, and services needed as well as barriers to accessing these services is critical. To carry out brokerage/advocacy/resourcing functions that ensure participants have access to programs, services and opportunities needed for healthy development by building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders and to demonstrate appropriate behaviours consistent with CTI’s Mission, Vision, and Values.

 

The Incumbent for this position will be responsible for the following:

 

1.  Identifying and Initiating:

  • Create lists of potential employers and coordinating on site visits and presentations to enlist their support and commitment to participating in CTI’s employment program;
  • Maintain file notes on each employer, including the skills required and the types of placement opportunities with that particular employer  

2.  Employment Placement and Wage Reimbursement Administration:

  • Collaborates with the Facilitator/Case Manager in identifying the type of internship placements that are of interest to participants and negotiate these type of experiences with the Placement Employers;
  • Works with the Facilitator/Case manager to identify the issues which need to be addressed in the employment readiness assessment scale;
  • Provides information sessions to program participant on the requirements of the Employers;
  • Organizes resume writing and mock interviews in conjunction with the youth Facilitator/Case manager
  • Maintains statistical reports on job development activities including follow up. On site assistance and reporting as required,
  • Enter participant data in our tracking system to monitor participant progress and support administration in the wage reimbursement process;
  • Liaises with schools, vocational training centers, resource centers, community partners, store managers in facilitating access to a variety of meaning placement or educational opportunities;

3.  On Site assistance for employer and youth;

  • Organizes follow up sessions with the employer and Facilitators/Case Managers to address attendance and emergent issues in the workplace;
  • Assists in the completion of attendance sheets to capture attendance records while on the job;
  • Attends the Friday afternoon debriefing sessions in learning about participants on the job placement experiences;
  • Provides crisis intervention when necessary when participants are on the job;

4.  Assigned Other Duties in Accomplishing Goals of the Project:

  • The Incumbent may be assigned other duties as needs arise and time permits in achieving the goals of the project.
  • Understanding of and experiencing working with clients struggling with mental health challenges is essential.

Although the majority of the work will take place between 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday to Friday, some evenings and/or weekend work may be required.  Salary range for this position is $51,000 - $54,000 per annum, prorated for a 10 month period, based on qualifications.  As this is a contract position, the incumbent is not eligible for enrolment in the agency benefit plan.  A valid Ontario driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle for local travel is required.  A VSS form must be provided.
