This position reports to a Clinical Supervisor and is part of the Strong Families in Community department.

Position Summary

Presently we are looking for skilled counsellors to join our awesome team known for clinical excellence to engage children, youth, and families in creating change in their lives and communities. 

As a Family Counsellor, you will engage with children, youth, couples and families in the context of their community.  You are knowledgeable and possess hands-on successful experience delivering clinical counselling services to individuals, children, and families who are experiencing challenges in their lives and seeking support from the counselling services offered by our team. Working from a trauma informed, strengths-based approach, your counselling strategies empower others and build resilience. You will develop and evaluate service goal plans, maintain clinical records and reporting requirements.  Additionally, you will support with community referrals and system navigation to initiate other actions as required. An understanding of attachment, trauma, child development, grief and loss, natural supports and family systems.  

While these positions will be focused on providing counselling, facilitating groups may be required on a weekly basis.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Clinical Psychology, or Counselling or related field required
  • A passion for working to create change with families
  • At least 3 – 5 years in a clinical setting, of which 3 years were providing counseling, preferably in brief solution focused therapy, with families and individuals.
  • Experience in working with larger systems such as Children Services, AHS and CBE.
  • Training and experience in treatment options such as CBT, attachment, DBT, family systems therapy, narrative therapy, and trauma modalities
  • Takes a posture of cultural humility in working with diverse populations; experience with Indigenous and/or immigrant families is an asset
  • Ability to provide counseling in more than one language is an asset
  • Great team orientation and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work one or two evenings between Tuesday and Thursday
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Completion of Natural Supports Framework training
  • Certification with the Alberta Family wellness Initiative’s Core Brain Story

Current registration with a relevant professional association, as well as all necessary security clearances, is required.

Hourly Flexible (an average of 15 hours per week)
$33.48 - $41.71 per hour
