Catholic Social Services is currently recruiting for a contract, full-time (40 hrs/week) Clinical Counsellor in our Red Deer region. The position will end on March 31, 2022.

With more than 50 years of service delivery, Catholic Social Services is one of the largest multi-function social services agencies in Canada, with more than 1800 staff, and hundreds of volunteers delivering 130+ programs throughout Edmonton and Central Alberta.

Job Summary:

The Clinical Counsellor provides therapeutic counselling to individuals, couples, and families by assessing, evaluating, and providing interventions. The Clinical Counsellor also may provide consultation to partner agencies and organizations and will be expected to deliver workshops and presentations to internal and external stakeholders. The Clinical Counsellor will be knowledgeable and competent to provide service to a diverse range of clients within their areas of professional competency.

Counsellors focus on the concerns that people bring, within the scope of practice of our staff members. The successful candidate will play a major role in helping to develop resilience with adults, couples, families, and children. An analytic thinking style and strong therapeutic focus will allow the incumbent to correctly assess client need while collaboratively setting goals. Being organized and having thorough, detailed, and professional documentation will lead to success in this role. The successful candidate will understand the need to adapt counselling orientation to fit client need.


  • Master’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, or Counselling (related) and are registered with the respective regulatory body.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in working with children, couples, families, and groups is preferred.
  • Superior communication, computer, organizational and time-management skills
  • Demonstrated experience with group facilitation and presenting considered an asset
  • Experience with employee assistance considered an asset
  • Vulnerable sector check from local RCMP or City Police
  • Child intervention record check
  • A reliable vehicle and valid driver's license is required as this position may require travel throughout Red Deer and surrounding area
  • Ability to facilitate both virtual and in-person counselling
