Manager, Privacy   

Ontario Health is seeking an experienced Manager, Privacy to lead a specialized team in the development of privacy programs for some of the most exciting and transformative health and digital initiatives in Ontario. 

As the Manager, Privacy, you will support all areas of the organization and be responsible for a team of privacy professionals that execute all public-facing privacy processes required to meet Ontario Health’s obligations as a Prescribed Organization in respect to the development and maintenance of the provincial electronic health record (EHR) and that provide privacy assurance services for EHR and digital health related initiatives.

Reporting to the Chief Privacy Officer (CPO), you will play a key role in Ontario Health’s expanding Privacy Office and a key contributor in continuously maturing Ontario Health’s privacy program and maintaining its reputation as a trusted business partner. Your passion for healthcare and the intersect between privacy and technology make you an ideal candidate for this exciting role. 

You will succeed in this role by using your management, engagement, technical skills and experience to:

  • lead and manage the day-to-day activities of the privacy program;
  • ensure your team’s portfolios provide expert privacy program services and advice;
  • provide leadership for the organization's Privacy by Design approach to Privacy
  • establish, implement, monitor and assess privacy program services and controls on an ongoing basis and advise senior leadership on the same;
  • support all areas of the organization and contribute to the development and execution of the privacy operating plan;
  • provide advice to business partners and to senior leadership: and
  • engage with and represent the organization with a variety of internal and external stakeholders at all levels.

Successful candidates will demonstrate the following:

  • Hold an undergraduate degree in Law, Business Administration, Health Administration, Health Science, or related disciplines, or equivalent education/experience with evidence of continuing professional development in privacy
  • In-depth knowledge of privacy legislation (ie: Ontario’s Personal Health Information Protection Act, 2004, or equivalent privacy legislation), privacy by design, project management lifecycles and breach management practices
  • Demonstrated relevant work experience, including focus in privacy
  • Experience with developing and/or leading privacy program activities in a management or lead role and experience managing direct reports and/or leading or supporting working groups or teams
  • Knowledge of privacy, health care, digital health solutions and third-party managed services
  • Knowledge of healthcare system, information technology and information security
  • Understanding of Ontario’s health care system and the overarching provincial health care strategy
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills with demonstrated ability to build collaborative internal and external relationships, at many levels and across functional teams
  • Strong communication skills to communicate effectively and efficiently, both verbally and in writing, to diverse audiences
  • Conflict resolution and negotiating skills
  • Ability to conceive, support and/or implement projects from start to finish while managing processes and expectations accordingly
  • Certified Information Privacy Professional or other relevant designation is an asset (e.g. CIPP/C)
