Privacy Operations Officer   

Ontario Health is seeking a senior member of their privacy team to fill the role of Privacy Operations Officer. This unique role will independently and expertly navigate a full range of public access and privacy request processes in respect to the development and maintenance of the provincial electronic health record, and will interact directly with patients and the full spectrum of health information custodians.

In addition, the Privacy Operations Officer will serve as the escalation point and advisor for other members of the team. You may assist with other privacy program activities including incident management and conducting privacy impact assessments for small to medium initiatives.

Reporting to the Manager, Privacy, you will:

  • provide verbal and written assistance to patients, as required to enable them to exercise their legal rights to make requests;
  • independently prepare, interpret and deliver a range of complex and sensitive reporting and notifications to patients; provide direct assistance to health information custodians who request and receive reporting and notifications from OH; and prepare a range of required reporting and notifications to the Information and Privacy Commissioner;
  • engage with and represent the organization with a variety of internal and external stakeholders at all levels;
  • investigate and respond to privacy incidents and breaches;
  • apply and comply with complex and legally significant policies, procedures and processes while adhering to associated timelines and record-keeping requirements;
  • oversee delivery of a designated subset of operational processes; and
  • deliver privacy training and presentations for internal and external stakeholders as required.

Successful candidates will demonstrate the following:

  • Hold an undergraduate degree, or post secondary program with demonstrated relevant work experience
  • Recognized access and privacy designation (CIPP/C) is preferred
  • Advanced knowledge and direct operational experience in relation to access and privacy, preferably in a health care setting; including knowledge of privacy legislation (Ontario’s Personal Health Information Protection Act, 2004 (PHIPA) and Ontario’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA)).
  • Advanced knowledge of health information, health data flows and related technologies
  • Exceptional critical thinking, problem-solving and conflict management skills
  • Discretion and emotional intelligence in dealing with those under stress
  • Strong communication skills to communicate complex information effectively and efficiently, both verbally and in writing, to diverse audiences
  • Proven ability to work independently to manage and prioritize, effectively a large and dynamic portfolio of work, subjected to prescribed timelines and record-keeping requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to instruct and mentor more junior staff
