Privacy Specialist   

Ontario Health is seeking a Privacy Specialist to join this team of specialized professionals responsible for executing all public-facing privacy processes required to meet Ontario Health’s obligations as a Prescribed Organization in respect to the development and maintenance of the provincial electronic health record (EHR). 

Your strong relationship building and stakeholder management skills will be critical as you interact directly with patients assisting them as required to exercise their privacy rights, and with health information custodians across the province who request and receive reporting and notification from Ontario Health.

Reporting to the Manager, Privacy, you will provide advisory services and support the development and implementation of Ontario Health’s many-faceted privacy programs by: 

  • supporting investigations of breaches, patient inquiries and privacy requests;
  • identifying and assessing risks and requirements;
  • developing and delivering privacy training across Ontario Health; and
  • engaging with internal and external stakeholders.

Successful candidates will demonstrate the following:

  • Demonstrated relevant experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in health care, health informatics, public or business administration or another relevant field is preferred.
  • Experience with conducting and/or providing oversight for privacy impact assessments including developing privacy requirements, risk mitigation plans, corporate policies and developing and/or delivering training content.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of access and privacy requirements and practices, preferably related to the health and public sectors, including knowledge of privacy legislation (Ontario’s Personal Health Information Protection Act, 2004 (PHIPA) and Ontario’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA)).
  • Thorough understanding of “privacy-by-design” and best practices.
  • Knowledge of technology architecture and infrastructure, digital health solutions and services, enterprise and corporate IT including information and cyber security preferred.
  • Direct operational level privacy experience preferably in a health sector and/or IT environment is considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge of digital health technologies and information security industry standards.
  • Exceptional analytical, critical thinking and creative problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong communication skills and consultation skills to communicate effectively and efficiently, both verbally and in writing, with diverse audiences/stakeholders

Ontario Health will offer a competitive compensation package including benefits and a defined contribution pension plan. Ontario Health employees are currently operating remotely on a full-time basis.
