One Casual on call position





Working under the supervision of the Exhibition Lead and reporting to the Audio-Visual Technician III, the AV Exhibition Installer performs specialized technical work in support of exhibitions, collections and events utilizing audio-visual equipment. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


  • assisting the Exhibition Lead with installation, operation, and maintenance of equipment
  • assisting the Exhibition Lead with equipment packing and storage
  • assisting the Exhibition Lead with installation and maintenance of AV systems supporting Gallery operations
  • preparing media files for exhibition, event presentation, web-delivery, and archive


In addition, the AV Exhibition tech provides support in the following areas:

  • liaising with Gallery staff and external clients on AV requirements for events
  • setup and operation of Gallery events as required
  • fielding internal requests and providing AV support for internal meetings as required
  • producing audio and video documentation as required
  • database maintenance and documentation of electronic media assets
  • creating manuals and installation instructions as required
  • providing research and input on equipment procurement and AV systems design


As the AV Exhibition Installer, you are tasked with ensuring safe and proper installation of equipment to precise specifications, ensuring reliable operation and presentation at a high aesthetic standard. Maintaining knowledge of current trends and advances in related technologies is required. 


The work includes computer operation, heavy lifting, basic construction tasks, cable pulling and termination, knowledge of low voltage electronics and basic electrical, ladder and lift work, cleaning and organization. The incumbent must be able to work in a safe and responsible manner, both individually and as part of a team.





Completion of the twelfth school grade supplemented by technical courses in audio-visual technology. Three (3) years experience working with audio-visual hardware or in the trades related to the audio-visual field.


Experience and knowledge of the following equipment and systems:


  • AUDIO: PA; multi-channel; wireless; installed systems; processing; signal flow
  • VIDEO: projectors; television; synchronization and distribution; analog/digital signal flow
  • LIGHTING: basic DMX dimming and control; cue creation; gels; basic rigging and electrical
  • COMPUTERS: video playback; editing and encoding; mapping; database; basic networking
  • RIGGING: ground supported and hung mounting; projection screens; cable management.


Ability to set up, operate and maintain a wide variety of audio-visual equipment and related systems for permanent installation and for live events. Possess an excellent working knowledge of contemporary computer platforms (Mac OS X and Windows 10), audio, video, and database software (Audition, Premiere Pro, FileMaker Pro); familiarity with 2D and 3D design applications (Sketchup). Ability to work safely with a variety of basic hand and power tools. Maintain excellent communication and interpersonal skills in a professional and friendly manner. The successful candidate will demonstrate a high attention to detail, effective problem-solving skills and the ability to work with colleagues in a team-oriented environment.


Other assets:

  • Education with AVIXA, Networking, Computer Science, Low Voltage, Electronics, or IT.
  • EWP (Elevated work platform) license
  • Video editing, sound mixing


SALARY:  Pay Grade 18 - $24.74 per hour plus a percentage in lieu of all benefits.


HOURS:  This is casual on-call work during normal business hours.
