Position Profile

 

As a Youth Worker, you will be responsible for supporting care path planning at the Residential facility. You will work with guests to develop service plans that support a transition to housing. The Youth Worker supports youth in establishing both short term and long-term goals as it relates to housing, finances, education, employment, family reconciliation and health and wellbeing. The case manager collaborates with their shift partner to complete daily shelter routines, supports in crisis de-escalation and maintains health and safety within the setting. The Youth Worker will be expected to practice within a framework that is a strengths-based relationship-based philosophy of care and a belief in the resilience of youth.


Role Overview

  •  Provide a positive environment to youth coming to the shelter. Leads and implements client driven care path plans by following up with residents on outstanding documents or actions required
  • Forms professional relationships with a broad spectrum of community service agencies to be able to refer youth and facilitate a successful connection as per their care path plan
  • Provide supervision, support and/or crisis counselling to residents living at the shelter
  • Maintain positive and open communication with the staff team
  • When able, attend regular team meetings to discuss the youth’s case plans
  • Complete documentation of shift activities and incidents in appropriate logs and client records
  • Responsible for entering client data for monthly, quarterly and annual funding reports
  • Other Administrative tasks as required
  • Maintain a care load, develop and follow through with comprehensive care plans designed to concentrate on barriers preventing success in housing as well as promoting longer term stability.

In collaboration with shift partner:

  • Performs daily cleaning of high traffic areas including kitchen, bathrooms, common areas, hallways and offices
  • Weekly clean-out of refrigerators/ freezers and food storage in preparation for food delivery. Daily organizing, maintenance and cleaning of food storage areas as needed
  • Change all garbage/waste bin, replenish soap dispensers/ cleaning products and restock toilet paper/ hand towels etc.
  • Prepares and cooks meals for next day, based on menu’s schedule. Uphold the expectations of food handlers and nutritional requirements for food preparation.
  • Oversee the household laundry.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Child and Youth Worker Diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 years’ experience working with youth and knowledge of homelessness, mental health, addictions and poverty issues.
  • Valid CPR/First Aid & CPI/UMAB Certifications.
  • WHMIS and Food Handling Certification recommended.
  • Knowledge of housing first for youth, trauma informed care, and harm reduction practices an asset.
  • Knowledge of resources within the Region of Peel, specifically for youth.
  • Effective problem solving, conflict resolution and crisis intervention skills.
