Recreational Counsellor (20 hours weekly, Monday- Friday)

The Recreation Counselor provides opportunities for school aged children with developmental disabilities to have fun and make friends by participating in community based activities in an afterschool program (full days during school breaks). Counsellor's promote inclusion by developing programs that are responsive to each child's personal choices by always offering a wide variety of recreation options.

YOUR IMPACT:

  • Provide direct support when required to a wide variety of children with developmental disabilities, mental health challenges; and with complex and/or challenging behaviour or support needs.
  • Provide opportunities for the children to learn social, creative and recreational skills, and to improve existing ones by enthusiastically participating alongside the children in activities
  • Establish respectful relationships with the children which recognizes their rights; and promote their dignity and well-being.
  • Follow and/or implement support agreements to achieve personal outcomes by using RSCL Planning Tools.
  • A belief that people with developmental disabilities can live self-determined lives in the community surrounded by friends and family.

YOUR CAPABILITIES:

  • Experience supporting children with developmental disabilities or working in a similar environment.
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • Clear, current Criminal Records Check
  • Valid BC Driver’s License
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to interact at all levels of an organization.
  • Reliable problem solving, critical thinking and communication skills.
